episode Beyond the Labels — Controlling What You Can with Tori DaCosta artwork

Beyond the Labels — Controlling What You Can with Tori DaCosta

What if… the labels you’ve carried for years were never meant to define you—and the freedom you’ve been looking for begins by focusing on what you can actually control? This conversation with Tori De Costa is about identity, resilience, and what happens when you stop living the life you inherited and begin building the one that’s actually yours. Some labels are handed to us. Some we pick up ourselves. Some conversations don’t hand you answers. They hand you a mirror. And sometimes… that’s exactly what you need.  The beautiful part? You don’t have to keep carrying the labels that no longer belong to you.  🛤️ Running someone else’s track — the quiet moment success stopped feeling like purpose. 🎯 Control. Manage. Influence. — three simple words that can change how you carry almost anything. 🤝 Control has a boundary — if another human is involved, what you have is influence. 💬 “Mind your business.” — the childhood lesson she had to unlearn before she could truly lead. 🔥 Another degree wasn’t the answer — purpose asked a different question. ❤️ Bullies don’t stay on the playground — and neither does courage. 🌱 The shortcut nobody wants — why hardship became her fastest path to growth. 🌿 Life isn’t happening to you — the mindset that changed everything. 📖 The book title everyone questions — and the identity conversation hiding underneath it. ✨ What still belongs to you — even after every label falls away. This episode isn’t here to fix you. It’s here to remind you that you don’t have to control everything to move forward. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is release the labels that no longer fit, hold tightly to what you can control, and trust yourself enough to keep taking the next step. Lessons & Blessings - The Beauty of the Detour

What if life’s biggest interruptions aren’t asking you to be positive… but simply to stay curious?  This week, we’re talking about one small question that’s been quietly changing the way I move through unexpected moments:  Is this a lesson… or is it a blessing? Because sometimes life follows the plan. And sometimes it turns into triangle, purple, and pancake. Maybe the goal isn’t controlling what happens next. Maybe it’s learning how to meet it. 🌱 When your plans turn into “triangle, purple, and pancake” — and why that’s become one of my favorite ways to describe life’s surprises. 🏋️ Stop lifting someone else’s weight — your progress doesn’t have to look like theirs. 🤝 The real blessing might be your spotter — someone who’s cheering you on without doing the work for you. 🛗 Yes… I got stuck in an elevator for an hour. Turns out it wasn’t the worst thing that happened  that day. 📱 Being forced to stop led to one of the most productive hours I’d had all week. 💬 What finally made me send the email instead of shrugging and saying, “It’s probably fine.” ❤️ Some things aren’t blessings. And pretending they are doesn’t help anyone. 🧠 Looking for the lesson isn’t toxic positivity. It’s a way of keeping your footing when life gets messy. ✨ One question that’s changing how I handle life’s interruptions: Is this a lesson… or is it a blessing? This episode isn’t here to fix you. It’s simply an invitation to notice what’s still available when the day doesn’t unfold the way you hoped. Sometimes there’s something to learn. Sometimes there’s something to be grateful for. Sometimes there’s a little of both.  And sometimes all you have to do is keep asking the question. We’re really, really glad you’re here. 💛 Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/radical-joy-with-james-bullard--5644728/support [https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/radical-joy-with-james-bullard--5644728/support?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss]. 🌹🧡🟡🌳🔷🟪🤎🖤❔  ❤️🍊🟨💚💙💜🟤🖤❕❕ Take care of yourself, take care of each other, and breathe!   ❤️🍊🟨💚💙💜🟤🖤❕❕  🌹🧡🟡🌳🔷🟪🤎🖤❔   Got something on your mind? episode Breaking the Spell — Choosing Truth Over Fear with Peggy Sharr artwork

Breaking the Spell — Choosing Truth Over Fear with Peggy Sharr

What if the truth was never missing… just buried under everything you were taught to fear? A conversation about growing up as the daughter of a religious cult leader, the moment the spell broke, and what it takes to come back to yourself—this episode includes themes of control, spiritual abuse, and lived trauma.  This one holds a different kind of weight. No need to rush—we’ll come out the other side. There is space for all of it here. 🌒 “I worked every day to keep my thoughts pure” — what it means to be afraid of your own mind. 🔥 The moment that didn’t look like a moment — very pregnant, wide awake, and finally done pretending. 🧠 Mind-reading as control — when even your inner world doesn’t feel like yours. 🐸 The frog in the pot — how “normal” slowly reshapes itself around harm. 💔 “Oh honey, I want to get back and miss my friends” — the sentence that broke the illusion. 🌊 Letting every thought come back at once — the night she stopped pushing truth down. 🤝 “I’m leaving… with or without you” — the risk of choosing yourself without a safety net. 🧵 Control that lingers — why leaving doesn’t mean you’re free (yet). 🧭 Relearning how to decide — untangling signs, destiny, and the fear of getting it wrong. 🌱 Starting over at 39 — sitting in a classroom, building a life that finally belongs to you.   This episode isn’t here to fix things. It’s here to sit with what is still being untangled. It’s here to remind you to trust yourself— and to support you in what you already know. Not everything will resonate. Take what you need and leave the rest. There is no timeline for becoming your own— just the moments where you begin to remember.   We’re really, really glad you’re here. 💛 Get in touch with Peggy! episode What Happens After the Quiet — Learning to Choose Clarity Over Assumption artwork

What Happens After the Quiet — Learning to Choose Clarity Over Assumption

What if the conflict you’re avoiding is, actually, the conversation that could set you free? Somewhere between hurt feelings, radio silence, awkward hugs, and overthinking every interaction… this became a conversation about clarity.   The quiet can feel peaceful at first. Then confusing. Then suddenly louder than the conflict ever was. Sometimes it’s not closure at all… just unanswered questions getting heavier.   ⚡ “I followed the rules.” — so why did the friendship suddenly feel different in public? 🫥 Space is easy to request — nobody tells you what happens after the silence. 🧠 Trying to solve people like math problems — instead of just asking the hard question. 📞 The conversation he absolutely did not want to have — and why it turned out softer than expected. 💬 “The ball is in your court now.” — the terrifying little sentence that changed everything. 🪞 Southern politeness vs. emotional honesty — when “being nice” starts getting in the way of clarity. 🧳 Old hurt in a brand-new interaction — how quickly confusion can rewrite a room. 🩹 Tiny lies, temporary peace — and the danger of letting bandages replace healing. 🚲 Taking the long way around one uncomfortable conversation — emotionally and literally. 🌊 Conflict isn’t always combat — sometimes it’s just two people finally being honest. 🧭 “Approach with curiosity instead of judgment.” — easier said than done when your feelings are hurt. 🔥 The hard truth about growth — most of it starts with discomfort, not certainty.   This episode isn’t here fix you It’s not about picking sides or winning an argument. It’s here to remind you that honesty can be kind and boundaries can be loving. That clarity is kinder than assumption. And sometimes the healthiest thing you can do… is finally say the thing out loud. episode Where Ease Meets Ambition with Alessandra Wall artwork

Where Ease Meets Ambition with Alessandra Wall

What if ease isn’t the opposite of ambition… but the place it’s been trying to meet you all along? A conversation about success that doesn’t just look good on paper… but actually feels good to live inside. The kind that feels different the moment you step into it—not performative, not polished… just true. The kind that lets you breathe a little deeper. The kind that creates space. The kind that shifts the pressure… and lingers longer than you expect. 🌿 Success that doesn’t feel like success — when everything looks right on paper, but something inside whispers, “there’s more.” 💬 “What now?” isn’t dissatisfaction — it’s the quiet nudge of expansion, not failure. 🔥 Calling your own bullshit (with love) — the kind of honesty that actually moves you forward. 🪞 Ambition, out loud — what it means to wear your drive visibly, especially when you were taught not to. 💧 Joy isn’t a personality trait — it comes and goes… and that’s exactly the point. 🌙 A mockingbird, a memory, a moment of enough — how gratitude sneaks in through the smallest door. 🧭 Pronoia over paranoia — the shift from “everything’s against me” to “maybe it’s all unfolding for me.” ⏸️ Mastering the pause — the space where realignment, clarity, and truth quietly live. ⚖️ Hustle isn’t the only way — when working harder stops working… and what opens when you stop. 💡 “What if it could be easy?” — the question that disrupts everything you thought you had to prove. This episode isn’t here to fix you.  It’s here to sit beside you while you reconsider what “enough” might feel like… to loosen the pressure just a little… to remind you that ease isn’t laziness, and wanting more doesn’t mean something’s wrong.
