RYB & Alopecia Connection || The Men's and Women's Perspective.

Hey! Welcome back!! Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to take a listen. In this episode of 'Rocking Your Bald,' I am joined by Frank and Tommy from Alopecia Connection for a Q&A session exploring the male and female perspectives of living with alopecia. The conversation delves into hair loss's emotional and social impacts, including self-esteem and body image issues, societal perceptions, and coping mechanisms. We are not holding back. We share personal experiences, struggles, and insights on navigating relationships and finding our authentic selves despite alopecia. We also discuss the importance of therapy, community support, and the portrayal of baldness in media, aiming to foster greater understanding and acceptance of alopecia in society.

Rocking The Bald: A Personal Alopecia Tale

Welcome back to 'Rocking Your Bald Podcast.' Today, you get me! I share my personal journey with alopecia in honor of Alopecia Awareness Month. I recounted when I was diagnosed at age five and detailed my experiences, from painful steroid treatments to the emotional impact of hair loss. I also discuss navigating life through school bullying, various attempts to hide my bald spots, and eventually rocking the bald as an adult. I also share advice for others on a similar journey, stressing the importance of support systems, setting boundaries, and self-acceptance. I also encourage those unaffected by alopecia to educate themselves on the condition to support better those who live with it. 00:00 Introduction and Podcast Update 01:26 Jen's Alopecia Journey Begins 03:47 Struggles and Bullying in School 05:59 Coping Mechanisms and Hair Pieces 10:33 Transition to Adulthood and Acceptance 15:38 Embracing Baldness and Henna Crowns 21:31 Living Authentically and Setting Boundaries 23:06 Encouragement and Advice for Listeners 32:01 Final Thoughts and Farewell

Navigating Grief: Healing, Identity and Emotional Resilience with Leigh Todd

Hi! Welcome back to the 'Rocking Your Bald' podcast! Today, I sit down with Leigh Todd to delve into the essential yet often overlooked processes of grieving and mourning. We address the individual experiences of grief, ranging from the loss of loved ones to hair loss and other unexpected life changes. The discussion underscores the significance of mental health support, self-care, and the personal nature of each healing journey. Key topics include practical coping mechanisms, the stages of grief, recognizing emotional triggers, setting boundaries, and the importance of support groups and therapy. Leigh also provides valuable advice on finding new joys, reconnecting with past passions, and seeking the right therapist. Leigh is the owner and founder of Prospering Hope, PLLC. After working in psychiatric hospitals over the span of 10 years, she decided to focus on working in the outpatient sector while also supervising a Treatment Foster Care program. She obtained her bachelor's and master's from the University of Houston and has worked her way up to becoming a clinical supervisor for the State of Texas and the NASW Board.  Leigh currently lives and works in the Woodlands area outside of Houston with her husband, daughter, and two dogs, Elly and Ace. Recently, Ace became the official therapy dog for Prosering Hope. When Leigh is not on the soccer field watching her daughter play, she enjoys running, working out, reading, re-watching Friends, or any "nerd" movies/shows!
