LOOKING BACK – PRESENTED BY CATHIE HARROP. These are the stories of women who came to NZ to find a better life or maybe for an adventure or simply to accompany their husbands. Their experiences, rarely heard before, are told from their writing in journals and diaries, or accounts in newspapers and magazines of the time. Their words give an insight into some of their problems and the social mores of their time. Ewelme Cottage and Alberton feature in the first episodes. Others will be progressively added telling the stories of women who arrived expecting to be governesses and housemaids but who often married into the higher end of Auckland society or went on to set up their own shops, open schools or establish successful businesses. Where possible these stories will be linked with places in Auckland known to the women in their time. ABOUT THE PRESENTER -Cathie has extensive experience in researching and presenting numerous broadcasts for Radio New Zealand. The topics included Early NZ Woman and Early N Z Families. She was also supported by Creative NZ and the Auckland War Memorial Museum to write and perform “They Also Serve” - stories of the Women of World War One. Of course many will also know her concerts bringing to life Victorian Christmas celebrations at many historic venues around Auckland.https://www.cathieharrop.com. JENNIE KHAN is a well-known musician, and performer and teacher in Auckland. She is a permanent cellist in the MSO and plays on recordings for various Auckland musicians. She arranged and played the short pieces of music with a heartfelt connection to the written words of these tales. https://jenniekhan-cellist.squarespace.com

Ladies of Ewelme

EWELME COTTAGE -  BLANCHE LUSH - Not very long ago I sat under a tree on the lawn outside Ewelme Cottage in Parnell Auckland and wondered what the thoughts of Blanche Lush were when she came to this house more than 150 years ago. What did she leave behind in England, and how do she adapt to NZ? Was it what she had expected? Here you hear about her early years and in her own words from her journals and letters, her thoughts about the various parts of the country she lived in with her family from her arrival in 1850. Blanche lived short periods at Ewelme until it became her permanent home in 1882 until her death in1912. Ewelme Cottage is operated by Heritage N.Z Pouhere Taonga. It is open to the public on Sundays 10.30 .to 4 pm www.visitheritage.co.nz/visit/auckland/ewelme-cottage [http://www.visitheritage.co.nz/visit/auckland/ewelme-cottage]

Liker at det er både Podcaster (godt utvalg) og lydbøker i samme app, pluss at man kan holde Podcaster og lydbøker atskilt i biblioteket.
Bra app. Oversiktlig og ryddig. MYE bra innhold⭐️⭐️⭐️
