episode Another Cycle - 1 artwork

Another Cycle - 1

Hi, this is NONI! When I started puberty, I loved hearing stories about mamas' and bintis' first cycles. The stories were always different and gave me some sense of the future. I thought other bintis may also find this information useful, so my mama and I started, Another Cycle. Another Cycle is a series where, I (Noni) ask bintis and mamas to share their experience with their first cycle. These are quick episodes with lots of wisdom. As you will hear, we don't share the names, but you will recognize some voices. We hope you enjoy! Take Aways from this Another Cycle story: - Your first cycle does not always come with red blood. - Your first cycles are not always regular. - It can be nice to have friends around. As always, if you think someone can benefit from our conversation, please share and join us for other episodes and resources at www.thebinti.com [http://www.thebinti.com]. Oh, bintis and mamas, if you are interested in sharing your story with us, please reach to us at info@thebinti.com. I would love to hear your story!

The Endocrine System w/Dr. Stephanie Sweet (M.D.)

"The Endocrine System," "Homeostasis," "Hypothalamus," and "Integrative Medicine." Whew! In this episode we cover some big systems and concepts with Dr. Stephanie Sweet. We ask if puberty is a season of homeostasis or chaos? Dr. Sweet helps us answer this question by teaching us about the connections between the brain, body, and our environment. For example, did you know that the ovaries are a gland that talk to the brain?! This episode was so packed with information that we broke it up into two parts. This is Part 1. When you finish with Part 1, go ahead and listen to Part 2! In Part 2 we talk to Dr. Sweet about nutrition and how to care for our Binti systems with good food, friends, and fun! As always, thank you for listening! If you haven't already, please share, subscribe, and leave a positive comment or interesting question. episode Puberty & Reproductive Health (& a side of Math) w/Emi James and Dr. Abike James (M.D.) artwork

Puberty & Reproductive Health (& a side of Math) w/Emi James and Dr. Abike James (M.D.)

In this episode we talk to OB/GYN Dr. Abike James and her daughter Emi James (neuroscience major) about balancing their scientific knowledge alongside the reality of puberty as mama and binti. Emi shares her experience as a swimmer and how her mother coached her to use a tampon during her first cycles. Dr. James shares her best practices for supporting bintis and mamas over generations through caring relationships with patients. We also discuss changes in binti bodies and attitudes and how we are the original "bluetooth" as our bodies sync up when bintis spend time together! (Note: At the end of this episode we talk to Dr. James about her research and work with bintis who have experienced female genital cutting. This is a global podcast and this is a dynamic that we discussed often in our travel to speak with bintis in East Africa. Thank you Dr. James for taking care to clearly explain this cultural practice to young bintis and mamas.) As always, thank you for listening and don't forget to follow and share.
