Day is joined this week by Emily and Debby, the creative minds behind the branding and storytelling you see put out by the farm online. A Visit to Newhall Fields  4/29/19 Wading through air full of mists, my husband, my sister, and I slop across long mud-tracks into open field. Jeannette is all smiles as she tromps to meet us in front of the straw-strewn gardens, her raincoat streaked with earth, her cap dark with rain. "Taste this" she says, plucking herbs like chocolate mint. "Stomping on chamomile is showing it love..." and we stomp and we stomp and we press and we stomp and we laugh and we love it. Running herbs through our fingers, a cold, early spring air runs its fingers through our hair. "There is light, there are nutrients, there is carbon" she says, and we learn how to farm the sun. Drawn by fragrances and magic, my sister crouches—knees flanking her arms like a frog—like a child. Soft eyes below the brim of his blue baseball cap,  my husband stolidly surveys; his eyes as green as the tree line.  I think gratefully, prayerfully,  he has touched peace, he has rooted in it, he has found it here. There is something in all this— the brown and black and green, green, green!  things full of flavor all asking for love.
