A lot of friends feel comfortable talking about race issues, gender equality, fighting for the LGBTQ+ community and so many other "taboo" topics, yet body issues are still something so many feel uncomfortable discussing. Everyone, regardless of size, struggles with insecurities so why does this still remain a topic people tip-toe around? This episode I'm so excited to bring on my best friend, a fat ally and the creator of my cover art, Trisha Bhavnani. We touch on how body conversations don't have to be intimidating, recognizing everyone has body issues, how it's important to surround yourself with uplifting friends and how to be a fat ally. Trisha and I have always been comfortable talking about anything with each other and this episode's conversation is no different. Because these conversations between different sized, or even similar sized friends don't have to be awkward! I have a secret for you... fat people love sex and aren’t desperate for attention. Wild, right?! This episode I’m diving into all things fat sexuality! I touch on the toxic fetishization of fat bodies, why we have a complicated relationship with sex, how to optimize sex, and how can we all become more confident in the bedroom regardless of our size. I once again overshare with stories about how I re-broke a man's balls and how a man orgasmed from penetrating my thigh fat. All sex is going to be a little weird and it's time we get more comfortable with that. Fat, a word that makes everyone cringe. A word that when neutrally used people automatically say "no you're not fat, you're beautiful". A word that is overly abused in "I feel fat" or "Do I look fat in this?" like phrases. Yet, a word that so many are boldly reclaiming! This episode I dive into when in history being fat started to become so negative, society's obsession with the it, and how some alternative terms can be more harmful than good. Whether you're a thin ally, a fat cutie yourself, or struggling to identify with either, listen in to learn how we all can take part in destigmatizing the word. Our society needs to do more than just reclaim this one descriptor, but it could be a great stepping stone. When flipping through any wedding magazine, it will mostly be targeting a very specific group of people: thin, white, heterosexual and western. On a day that’s supposed to be all about our unique selves, why are we still fed cookie cutter ideals? Tia Nash, a wedding photographer and LGBTQ educator, joins me to talk about why the wedding industry is still lacking in diversity. We touch on what professionals should be doing to make the industry more inclusive, how childhood wedding dreams affect us as adults, the importance of choosing the right vendors and the struggles that plus size and LBTQ+ brides/grooms may face. Ah body positivity... the term everyone is quick to hashtag. Joining me to completely break down the body positivity movement and everything you thought you knew about it is Raffela Mancuso, a mental illness advocate and a body positivity disruptor. We touch on body positivity vs body neutrality, the true intent behind the movement, why it doesn't have to be intimidating, passing the mic to more marginalized bodies and how those with thin-privilege fit into the movement. Body topics can always be uncomfortable, but this is one you definitely need to strap in for!
