The K's - Pretty On The Internet Album Review

The K’s, four-piece from Earlestown, Merseyside return with their second album “Pretty On The Internet”, the follow up to their debut record released in 2024 “I Wonder If The World Knows”. Made up of singer/songwriter and guitarist Jamie Boyle, lead guitarist Ryan Breslin, bassist Dexter Baker and drummer Nathan Peers, The K’s rise has been astronomical in the last few years, with their live shows earning them a support slot alongside Blossoms, as well as accompanying Liam Gallagher at his Malta weekender. They divide fans online and have released hit tracks like “Hometown” and “Hoping Maybe”, but did their second album fall flat? I seriously wanted to enjoy this album, but ultimately quite a few of the tracks started merging into one which confirmed my suspicions... they're rushed into their second album. Releasing your sophomore record barely 12 months after your debut was always going to be a challenge, and I don't think they've succeeded. They want this album to be UK #1, and it may well be because they have such a loyal fan base, but for me I don't think it is deserving of UK #1. They should have let "I Wonder If The World Knows?" mature for another year or two, allowing them to also mature as a band. This is not a bad album, but it also isn't the best thing since sliced bread which I'm sure some people are going to make out. I also don't think the delays and number of singles they have released has helped either. So, what next for The K's? As previously mentioned, this feels incredibly rushed, and I think they probably need to let these two records mature now. Sometimes less is more. I know in the modern world we require as much content and new material as possible, it feels like The K's attempted to follow the Taylor Swift model of releasing as much as possible to keep their name in the mouths of people in the music scene, but I think this may have the opposite effect to how they intended, as they aren't already an established band. It will be interesting to see what's next and I wish the guys all the best, because they are lovely and release good music, but this album for me ain't it unfortunately.
