Mehr The Future of Timber

As we strive for low-carbon solutions, timber is gaining popularity as a go-to renewable material. Wooden buildings are popping up everywhere, and our demand for wood is growing fast. But while we embrace timber, we also need to protect our forests and plant more trees to soak up carbon, preserve nature's resources, and enhance biodiversity. Wood is a part of daily life, and everyone wants to keep forests safe. So, how do we balance these important but competing goals? What’s next for the future of timber?Evolving Forests has been investigating whether forest conservation and timber use can truly coexist—whether it's possible to have timber-built homes while actively enhancing the forests that provide the wood. While research and data are essential in finding a way forward, progress ultimately depends on human commitment. To address this pressing challenge, we have been delving into the personal stories of individuals who are directly confronting this complex issue.Discover more films, audio, and written word at the home of the project https://evolvingforests.com/future-of-timber Follow us...Instagram: @evolving_forestsLinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/company/evolving-forestsWith thanks to our funders and supporters at Built by Nature, Forestry Commission, Scottish Forestry Trust, and Eggerhttps://builtbn.orghttps://www.scottishforestrytrust.org.ukhttps://www.egger.com Hosted on Acast. Episode Investment with David Edwards Cover

Investment with David Edwards

With forests taking an average fifty years to grow the ongoing impacts of climate change are making forests significantly more vulnerable to biotic and abiotic pressures. The increasing potential for damage from fire, wind, pests, or disease is inescapable. At the mercy of such stressors, why then would anyone invest in forestry and why has it been such a lucrative asset class over the past three decades? To explore this question we spoke with David Edwards from Tilhill Forestry whose portfolio extends to 200,000 hectares of forest managed on behalf of investors and private clients. Though David acknowledges they deal mainly in the UK in upland spruce plantations he was keen to highlight that institutional and private investors in forests are primarily interested in their return on investment (ROI). In the UK this translates as spruce plantations that grow fast with relatively simple silviculture. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
