It is a legend that is shared with Nicaragua since there have also been reported appearances of this being. It is believed that they are witches, who have the ability to change their appearance and turn into an animal. They are also known as nahuales. Here I leave you a little story about this strange being, where some of its characteristics are shown. It is based on real events, I only make it clear that a change was made at the end of the story because no one dies or is injured but the witch, … IF it is in evidence. It was a very large family to be living in a wood and tin shack tucked between the coffee plantations of Puriscal. A relatively young couple who had decided to have their 7 children a year apart. The youngest of the children became ill during the morning but they had to wait for dawn to be able to go to the Hospital. At that time a taxi would have cost them food for the whole month so, they had to walk to the Puriscal Center and from there take a bus to San José. The mother suffered bitterly knowing that she had to leave her eldest son, barely 8 years old, taking care of the younger siblings while she and her husband were absent for who knows how many hours or days. All they had to eat was a few crumbs of bread, a pineapple, some left over beans, and rice from the night before Pedro, the eldest, knew where to look for eggs that the hens left in various nests scattered by the coffee plantation. There was little food for six growing children but there was no other option, The young couple had to take the one-year-old baby to the hospital because the diarrhea had already brought him to the brink of death. Pedro had to behave like the man of the house and take responsibility for all the needs of his little brothers while their parents were away. At least he already knew how to light the candles and a fire in case his parents hadn't arrived by dusk. The hours were becoming eternal and the children were already restless due to the absence of their parents, the birds began to flutter among the trees looking for their nests and in the distance the howls of the coyotes were heard warning the children of the rising of the moon. Pedro tried to stay calm but he couldn't lie to himself, he was very scared, he knew that those coffee plantations were hiding something strange not even the dogs would come near as it got closer to dusk and they would always bark towards a specific point. The children decided to arrange their pillows and foams in the small space that was kitchen-dining room-living room. All huddled together helped each other stay calm as it got darker and darker. It would be a very long night with their parents absent. A strange sound alerted the three oldest kids, the wooden wall was being scratched by something, it was as if someone was dragging a tree branch from side to side. The children’s blood ran cold when they peeped through the cracks in the wood, extremely pale female legs were clearly visible, it was walking slowly on all fours. The poor children began to pray squeezing the rosary, then they suddenly heard something running across the roof of the ranch with wild screams that made their skin crawl. They were terrified and began to cry non-stop, but Pedro remembered that his father had told him about La Mona, and that in order for La Mona to stop bothering them, they had to throw salt on it, but Pedro was not going to go out with rocks and much less to throw salt on La Mona , ooh no, that didn’t seem smart. That strange being was now even closer to the children screaming on the ceiling at one point the ceiling began to move as if it wanted to cave in. It sounded like someone was jumping
