Welcome to The Healing Childhood Trauma Podcast! This is the podcast for anyone still carrying the weight of past wounds and trauma experienced in childhood and adolescence. Childhood trauma leaves deep imprints - shaping our beliefs, relationships, sense of self, and even the way our nervous system responds to life today. Many traditional therapy models focus on only one dimension of our experience and often stay at the level of day-to-day problems. Yet for trauma to truly heal, we often need a more holistic approach - one that goes deeper, into the nervous system and the early childhood wounds that shaped how we learned to stay safe and connected. Hosted by Alec Williams, a psychotherapist, researcher, group facilitator, and childhood & relational trauma specialist based in London, each episode focuses on a specific challenge that childhood trauma can create - exploring what it is, why it develops, and what you can do to begin healing.

Childhood trauma can leave you either feeling disconnected from who you are, or not really liking the person that you are. In this episode, we explore three powerful ways to heal your identity and reconnect with your authentic self: * Learning to love and accept yourself as you are right now * Building new behaviours, experiences, boundaries, and patterns in the present * Reconnecting with authentic parts of yourself that may have been hidden by childhood trauma and survival adaptations You'll learn why healing from childhood trauma isn't simply about self-acceptance, personal growth, or rediscovering who you used to be. Instead, rebuilding a healthy sense of self often involves all three.

In this episode of The Healing Childhood Trauma Podcast, we explore the exhausting reality of living in chronic hypervigilance after childhood trauma. From overthinking text messages and scanning people’s tone of voice, to struggling to relax, sleep, or feel safe in relationships - this episode unpacks how trauma can leave the nervous system stuck in survival mode long after the danger has passed. Drawing on trauma-informed psychology, Polyvagal Theory, somatic healing approaches, and nervous system regulation research, we explore practical, evidence-informed tools for nervous system healing, including: • Reducing overstimulation and hidden stressors • Working with the body through grounding and breathwork • Shifting attention from danger to safety • Understanding hypervigilance with compassion rather than self-criticism

Episode How Childhood Wounds Show Up in Adult Relationships | with Holly Roberts (Ep 29) Cover

How Childhood Wounds Show Up in Adult Relationships | with Holly Roberts (Ep 29)

Holly's website: www.talkingrelationships.co.uk [https://talkingrelationships.co.uk/] In this episode of The Healing Childhood Trauma Podcast, I’m joined by Holly Roberts, an individual and couples psychotherapist who specialises in relationships, attachment wounds, anxiety, self-esteem, and childhood trauma. Together, we explore how childhood trauma and unmet emotional needs can quietly shape adult relationships - affecting trust, communication, emotional safety, conflict, intimacy, and self-worth. We talk about why seemingly small disagreements with a partner - like arguments over towels left on the floor, tone of voice, feeling ignored, or not feeling understood - are often connected to much deeper emotional wounds underneath. Holly shares insight into how early experiences of abandonment, criticism, emotional neglect, inconsistency, or feeling unsafe can show up later in adult relationships. This episode is full of compassionate insight and practical tools for anyone wanting to better understand their relationship patterns, heal childhood wounds, and feel more connected within themselves and their relationships. _____________________________ 🌐 Visit my website to learn more about working with me one-to-one or in groups: www.alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk [http://www.alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk] ✉️ Get in touch: Contact - Alec Williams Therapy [https://alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk/contact/] 📰 Join the mailing list for updates, reflections, and new episodes: Mailing List - Alec Williams Therapy [https://alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk/]

Episode What Does Healing From Childhood Trauma Actually Look Like? (Ep 28) Cover

What Does Healing From Childhood Trauma Actually Look Like? (Ep 28)

What does healing from childhood trauma actually look like in real life? In this episode of The Healing Childhood Trauma Podcast, we explore the often messy, non-linear and deeply human reality of the healing journey after childhood trauma. From the painful truth that healing can take time, to why things can sometimes feel worse before they feel better, we unpack some of the most common - and least talked about - experiences people encounter as they begin healing. We also explore the profound shifts that can happen in relationships, identity and self-worth as you become more connected to your needs, emotions and nervous system. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering: “Am I actually healing?” “Why does this still affect me?” “Why does the process feel so confusing sometimes?" - this episode is for you.

Strong Reactions, Old Wounds: Managing Trauma Triggers from Childhood (Ep 27)

In this episode of The Healing Childhood Trauma Podcast, we break down trauma responses and why your nervous system can react so quickly - and intensely - to everyday situations. If you’ve ever wondered why you get triggered in arguments, shut down under pressure, or fall into people-pleasing patterns, this episode explains the psychology behind it. By the end of this episode, you’ll: * Understand what trauma responses actually are and why they happen * Recognise your own patterns (fight, flight, freeze, or fawn) in everyday situations * Learn how childhood experiences shape your emotional reactions today * Gain simple, practical tools to interrupt reactions in real time * Feel more equipped to respond with awareness instead of reacting automatically _____________________________ 🌐 Visit my website to learn more about working with me one-to-one or in groups: www.alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk [http://www.alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk] ✉️ Get in touch: Contact - Alec Williams Therapy [https://alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk/contact/] 📰 Join the mailing list for updates, reflections, and new episodes: Mailing List - Alec Williams Therapy [https://alecwilliamstherapy.co.uk/]
