Twain and Howells On Each Other
Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) and William Dean Howells shared a remarkable friendship that spanned 44 years, marked by both personal and professional milestones. Their bond is often regarded as one of the most significant in American literature. Howells released his celebrated work, My Mark Twain, in the same year that Clemens passed away in 1910. Just a few years prior, Clemens penned a heartfelt remembrance and appreciation of the steadfast friend who stood by him through the highs and lows of his illustrious literary career. (John Greenman)
