Wintering Is a Feminist Practice
For the winter solstice — the longest night of the year — we’re sharing a special episode exploring wintering as a feminist practice.
In a culture that rewards constant productivity and treats rest as something to earn, slowing down can feel uncomfortable, indulgent, or even irresponsible, especially for women and marginalised people. But winter isn’t something to push through or escape; it’s a vital season of wisdom and regeneration.
In this episode, we explore why rest has historically become increasingly undervalued, how linear business models have shaped our relationship to time and worth, and why planning the year ahead in December so often feels wrong.
Drawing on menstrual cycle awareness, seasonal rhythms, folklore, history, and lived experience, we discuss what nature teaches us about slow growth without guilt, how winter supports reflection, release, and renewal, and why honouring your inner and outer winter can be a deeply strategic (and political) way to work and live.
We also guide you through a gentle body check-in for the season and share a few simple solstice rituals: a practice of releasing, resting, and making space for what wants to emerge next.
This episode is an invitation to soften and let go, trust the dark, and remember: rest is not laziness, slowing down is not falling behind, and winter has something to teach us — if we’re willing to listen.
