Irene Agbontaen is a someone whose career is defined by being the change she wanted to see. Back in 2018, she was becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of clothes on the market for taller women, so she took matters into her own hands and founded TTYA, which stands for Taller Than Your Average. The brand saw monumental success, however, since then, she's curated a multifaceted career for herself just by saying yes. We’ve done rebranding (planning for 2025), we’ve done discipline (actually sticking to your routine), and so the third and final part of the new year mini series is all about getting yourself in the right mental state to be able to achieve those new shiny goals you set for yourself. I discovered Maya a few months ago, and loved her approach to mental fitness as something we actually work on & train, compared to just talking about our ‘mental health’ as something we all have. So this episode is essentially a free session with a renowned brain coach, we did guided visualisations (permission to lol at my meditation face), she taught me how to mentally rehearse like Venus Williams & also said the best advice quote I think we’ve ever had in 122 episodes, hope you love it! + Download Revolut with my link, spend, and get £20 (End date and T&Cs apply) https://get.revolut.com/E528/gracebeverleypod [https://get.revolut.com/E528/gracebeverleypod] + MAYA IG: https://www.instagram.com/maya.mental.fitness/?hl=en Website: https://mayaraichoora.com/ Visualise: Think, Feel, Perform Like the Top 1% [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Visualise-Think-Feel-Perform-Like/dp/1846048524?ie=UTF8&tag=googhydr-21&hvadid=719417706401&hvpos=&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10409151340845840806&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_3fqcld3nnr_e&gad_source=1] by Maya Raichoora is published by Rider (Penguin Random House) on 27 March. + CHAPTERS 0:00 Introduction 3:49: Working Hard or Hardly Working? 4:48: The diagnosis that changed her life aged 15 10:05: How much her healing journey was her mindset 13:47: The difference between mental health & mental fitness 18:56: The pillars of mental fitness 20:55: Why training our brain gets harder after 25 22:33: How to implement it into your life 24:57: The basics of visualisation 27:30: Showing the power of visualisation 31:25: The difference between visualisation & overthinking 24:27: The second arrow parable 35:56: Controlling your emotions when you're exhausted 42:27: How long does it take to build confidence 44:20: How to stop falling back into your old routines 46:31: How to stop using your past as validation 49:02: How to communicate your growth to others 55:33: The best advice she's ever been given + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. Discipline is a weird one isn't it, the discourse is so massively dominated by podcast bros telling you to dig in, and when I googled 'books on discipline', I could barely find one by a woman. But it’s something should still speak about (even if it makes us seem podcast bro), because when we learn to harness it its hugely powerful, and actually sticking to a routine is so so much more important than creating one. The fact of the matter is that discipline is what actually keeps you going towards your goals when your new year's resolutions are crumpled in the bottom of your handbag. Today, we’re doing something we have NEVER done before on the podcast - we’re making history by having a returning guest. Back in September, I sat down with Roxie Nafousi to talk all things manifesting - I had a long episode plan, I had questions upon questions, but did we get through them? No. Anyway, that was one of our most popular episodes of all time - so I asked Roxie if she would come back to give us all the new year pep talk we need, because it’s manifesting season.
