The Australian Institute of Criminology reports that almost half of Australians experienced cybercrime in the past year, with online marketplace scams being the most common, followed by investment, phishing and remote access scams. The research reveals Australians are scaling back on key online safety behaviours such as using secure passwords, installing software updates and checking social media privacy settings. Surprisingly, 25 to 49-year-olds are increasingly falling victim to scams due to higher exposure from spending more time online for both personal and work activities.
