In Matthew 12, Jesus says something greater than the temple is here (v. 6), something greater than Jonah is here (v. 41), and something greater than Solomon is here (v. 42). These statements give us a clue to His mediatory work. He is the fulfillment and improvement of all three of the greatest institutions in biblical history: prophet, priest, and king. As we consider the three-fold office of Christ, we see that we don’t need someone else to represent us to God or God to us. We already have a Mediator. JESUS IS THE ONLY MEDIATOR WE NEED.

Their evil hearts are revealed in their words about Jesus. In this, the second of three confrontations between the Pharisees and Jesus in chapter 12, the Pharisees accuse Jesus of being in league with Satan. In His response and subsequent rebuke, Jesus reveals the ironic truth: the ones bringing the accusation are the ones who are actually in league with Satan. The counter-example of the Pharisees’ attitude toward Jesus reveals that THE KINGDOM OF GOD BRINGS TOTAL TRANSFORMATION.

Jesus makes some incredible claims and then backs them up with a controversial healing in the synagogue. In this sermon, Pastor Andrew compares the heavy and burdensome yoke of the Pharisees with the light and easy yoke of Jesus. He shows us that Jesus' is delightful because He is the Lord of rest, the law, mercy, and justice.

In this text, Jesus explains that He has received all authority from God the Father to reveal His grace to whomever He chooses. Then He issues a gracious invitation to come to Him and find rest. In this sermon, Pastor Andrew helps us navigate the tension between divine sovereignty and human responsibility. He then called us to respond to Jesus' invitation, which is good news for the humble and the weary.
