Journal of International Solidarity
In this episode, I speak to Mohanad Alsayed about his new memoir titled “Scars and Medals” released by Iskra Books. This memoir is a granular look at the occupation of Palestine from the perspective of Mohanad and his family. He tells the story of his grandmother who lived before Israeli colonization in 1948 and was forced to flee and rebuild their lives; he tells his story of growing up as a child under military occupation in the West Bank, and the story of finding his long lost uncle who was a resistance fighter that fled Palestine when he was very young and was on the run from Mossad, never to be heard from afterward. This is not just a story of occupation and hardship, but also one of agency, resilience, and resistance.
