Women’s stories, women’s leadership, and women’s wisdom — interviews, memoirs, and commentary for women that encourage them to laugh and feel empowered. The true story of South African grandmothers who found health, joy, and each other through soccer — proof it's never too late to start something new. 🔑 What You’ll Hear in This EpisodeWhat happens when a group of 40–80-year-old grandmothers in rural South Africa pick up a soccer ball for the very first time? They change the world. In this episode, Kris sits down with Jean Duffy, debut author of Soccer Grannies: The South African Women Who Inspire the World, to share one of the most uplifting stories you’ll hear all year. Jean takes us inside the remarkable journey of Becca Ntsanwisi — humanitarian activist, radio host, cancer survivor, and the visionary woman who founded the South African Soccer Grannies. After being diagnosed with colon cancer at 35, Becca looked around her hospital ward, and instead of focusing on her own struggle, she saw older women suffering from preventable conditions — and made a vow to change that. What started as a few grandmothers doing aerobics in a field — until a soccer ball rolled their way — has grown into a movement of 200+ teams across every province of South Africa and beyond. These women, many of whom survived apartheid, raised families shattered by the AIDS epidemic, and faced poverty and violence, found something extraordinary through the game: better health, community, joy, and each other. Jean’s own story mirrors the grannies in a beautiful way. She picked up soccer at age 40 on the sidelines of her daughter’s game in Massachusetts — and that decision eventually led her to write a book, travel to South Africa, and play in a packed stadium at the 2023 Grannies International Football Tournament in Limpopo. In 2025, Becca hosted the second tournament — bigger, bolder, with BBC and NPR coverage. And she’s already planning the next one for 2027. (Because, as Becca says, they can’t wait four years between tournaments at their age! 😄) This conversation is a masterclass in resilience, late-blooming courage, and what's possible when you simply refuse to believe it's too late. * How Becca Ntsanwisi — called the “Mother Teresa of Limpopo” — turned a hospital vow into a global movement * The real challenges these women face: apartheid, AIDS, poverty, witchcraft accusations, and social pushback * Why soccer didn’t just improve physical health — it transformed emotional wellbeing and built a life-saving community of support * How Jean (an engineer with no writing background!) spent 8 years turning this story into an award-winning book * The tearful moment in Boston that revealed what soccer truly meant to one grandmother who lost five children to AIDS * The first-ever Grannies International Football Tournament — and what it felt like to march into a packed stadium as a grandma soccer player * Where to find women’s soccer teams near you — and why it’s never too late to start 📚 About Jean DuffyJean Duffy is the debut author of Soccer Grannies: The South African Women Who Inspire the World, which won three awards and has been translated into Japanese. Her nonfiction writing has been published in the Boston Globe, Concord Monitor, PBS Next Avenue, and more. All proceeds from the book go directly to the Becca Ntsanwisi Foundation. 🔗 Find the book and learn more about the Soccer Grannies movement. 💛 Enjoyed this episode? Episode She Built a 90K-Follower Law Firm With $0 in Marketing Cover

She Built a 90K-Follower Law Firm With $0 in Marketing

A family law attorney explains protective orders, custody rights, and how she grew her firm to 90K followers with zero ad budget. Whitney Antoniono built WLA Family Law from nothing — no funding, no marketing budget — into a practice with a 90,000-follower community, all by teaching women the legal tools most attorneys keep behind a paywall. In this conversation with host Kris Keppeler, Whitney breaks down the real difference between filing for a protective order and filing for divorce, why shelters are more helpful than people expect, how custody's "best interest" factors actually work state by state, where AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude can (and can't) be trusted in a legal case, and what's broken — and what's working — inside family court today. If you're facing divorce, custody, or a domestic violence situation, or just want to understand how the family court system really operates, this episode is packed with the kind of information Whitney usually only shares with clients. Why Being 'Abrasive' Makes Women Powerful Leaders

This week on *Kris Talks About the Wisdom of Women*, nonprofit consultant and founder Nicole Farrell talks about the double standard between how men and women are perceived as leaders, why she confronts bias head-on instead of softening it, the underpaid reality of nonprofit leadership, and why she built her life around financial self-sufficiency instead of relying on a partner. A candid, unfiltered conversation for women in business, nonprofit leaders, and anyone rethinking the traditional life script. ### Key Quotes - *"Every woman I know is more accomplished, more fabulous, more successful than their male counterparts of the same age."* - *"You have to get to the point where you tell them, I don't care what you say. I'm going to do this with or without your support because I support myself."* - *"The peace that you get from handling it on your own... you don't have to be reliant on anyone unless you need to or you want to, because needing to is where you get issues."*

Episode She Started Over at Zero and Built a Business on Love Cover

She Started Over at Zero and Built a Business on Love

Suela Pirushi didn't just survive starting over — she turned it into a methodology. After two decades across the World Bank, government, and international B2B partnerships, she moved to the UK with no network and no safety net. What she had was a belief: that trust and genuine human connection outperform strategy every time. That belief became The Business Currency is Love. In this conversation, Kris and Suela cover: * Why women's credibility is on trial from the moment they walk into a room — and how the "evidence" that counts differs between government and business sectors * Why the lack of women in AI isn't a diversity problem — it's a design flaw (and what women actually bring to the table that systems need) * How to use AI tools strategically without coding a single line — and why combining tools beats chasing the newest one * The six pillars of the BRIDGE framework (branding, revenue, influence, distribution, growth, execution) and how to diagnose what your business actually needs * Why so many small business owners are actually employed by their own business — and how to shift out of that trap * A reframe on hiring help that changes the whole conversation about delegation and growth Resources mentioned: * Suela's book: The Business Currency is Love. [http://www.thebusinesscurrency.com/] * Free business health check + advice: email info@themilestonehub.com [info@themilesthonehub.com] and mention Kris's show * Suela's company: The Milestone Hub
