These two new habitats reflect CMA’s continued commitment to animal rescue, rehabilitation, conservation and providing lifelong care for animals in need.” 👉The habitat officially introduces four tropical bird species to CMA for the first time: a green-winged macaw, Sulphur-crested cockatoo, umbrella cockatoo and red-lored Amazon parrot. Additional species are expected to join the habitat in the coming months.  Guests can now meet the new feathered residents: Big Bird – A striking Green-winged Macaw and the second-largest species of macaw in the world, Big Bird is known for his bright red feathers and booming squawks that can be heard from up to three miles away. Approximately 30 years old, he loves peanuts, dancing to pop music from Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter, and greeting guests with enthusiastic “Hello!” and “Hiiiiii!” vocalizations. Although he never learned to fly, his playful personality and joyful spirit make him larger than life. Powder – This affectionate sulphur-crested cockatoo is famous for his cuddly nature and soft white feathers. His name comes from the powder-like substance cockatoos naturally produce to help protect their feathers from rain and moisture. Around 25 years old, Powder enjoys pistachios, bananas and sunflower seeds and can live well into his 90s. Skipper – A critically endangered umbrella cockatoo, Skipper may be shy at first, but he quickly steals hearts when he fans out his signature umbrella-shaped crest feathers. Approximately 20 to 25 years old, Skipper enjoys almonds and apples and has formed a close friendship with fellow bird resident Mr. Thumbs. Mr. Thumbs – The smallest — and arguably loudest — member of the flock, Mr. Thumbs is a red-lored Amazon parrot with a big personality. Known for whistling, making kissing sounds and even purring like a cat, he delights guests with his vocal talents and playful antics. He loves sunflower seeds, fruit and spending time alongside Skipper. 👉The movie "Christmas in Clearwater" is being filmed on location at CMA for a holiday romance set at the aquarium, focusing not only on a love story, but CMA's mission of Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release.  This coastal Christmas romance stars Katrina Norman (Christmas in Homestead) and Ignacyo Matynia (My Nightmare Landlord) and is directed by Lindsay Hartley (The Recipe Files). Shooting on location in Florida’s Gulf Coast, the film features the Clearwater Marine Aquarium as both a primary setting and a central element of the story. Christmas in Clearwater is targeting a Christmas 2026 release. About Clearwater Marine Aquarium:  Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) is a 501(c)(3) non profit working marine rescue center dedicated to inspiring the human spirit through leadership in education, research, rescue, rehabilitation and release. With a mission to preserve the environment and its marine life, CMA is home to rescued dolphins, harbor seals, sea turtles, river otters, stingrays and more. S2 Ep2177: ARTS Margo Hammond & Avery Anderson, Tampa Bay Arts Passport

Margo Hammond invited Avery Anderson, founder of Tampa Bay Arts Passport [https://www.tbartspassport.com/] to studio, and we learned about his newest project that both supports the arts and multimedia arts journalism, including podcasts! Tampa Bay is home to world-class museums, renowned theaters, and thriving music venues. Yet, over the past decade, arts journalism has been cut from major news outlets, leaving a gap in the way people connect with local culture. We believe people don’t just want to read about the arts—they want to engage with them. The Tampa Bay Arts Passport is more than just another publication. It’s a community-driven, subscription-based program that gives you access to exclusive discounts at arts venues while delivering in-depth journalism, features, and editorial content that bring the arts to life.  (Seen here: Avery Anderson, Maggie Duffy & Margo Hammond) #arts #averyanderson #tampabayartspassport #supporthearts #margohammond

Episode S2 Ep2176: JACK KEROUAC HOUSE The Beat Goes On! History, Tours, Events & The Legend Cover

S2 Ep2176: JACK KEROUAC HOUSE The Beat Goes On! History, Tours, Events & The Legend

Lunchtime Conversation host Nanette Wiser loves the Beat Generation and Jack Kerouac, so it was thrilling to have the non-profit organization that runs Disston Height's Jack Kerouac house [https://stpetekerouachouse.com/] in studio at THRIVE DTSP. English/Humanities professor and Board President Ken Burchenal to talk about the history of the house, the organization's efforts to save and refresh Kerouac's last residence (with his mother and 3rd wife) and learn about the monthly poetry, storytelling open mics and concerts (Craftsman Gallery owner Jeff Schorr is involved with some upcoming musical performances and a board member). "Your first thought is your best thought" Kerouac mantra and his fall from King of the Beats to St. Pete anonymity to the current resurgence of popularity is inspiring. From Tiffany Razzano's banned books event to the chance to stay overnight in Kerouac's room intrigued us, as did Spirits of St. Pete's Brandi Stark's upcoming stay there (paranormal activity?) caught our attention.  For events, follow them on social. [https://www.facebook.com/KerouacHouseStPete] MORE KEROUAC NEWS In a landmark moment for American literary history and the City of Lowell, Zach Bryan has acquired Jack Kerouac’s original On the Road scroll, The Dharma Bums scroll and a collection of personal letters, at Christie’s auction.  These extraordinary works, which are deeply tied to Kerouac’s life, voice, and legacy, will ultimately be housed and publicly displayed in Lowell, Massachusetts, Kerouac’s hometown, as part of the Jack Kerouac Center. #jackkerouac #authors #beatgeneration #ontheroad #kenBurchenal #nanettewiser #literaryhistory #stpete #stpetefl  #tampabay #radio #radiostpete #cityofstpete  #dtsp #downtownstpete
