The Glass Bead Game
Prince Myshkin, Socrates, and perhaps even Jesus all share a curious problem. They are not simply right- they are too honest, too direct, too unfiltered in their goodness. And the world doesn't quite know what to do with them. In this episode, I explore Dostoyevsky's The Idiot and the unsettling idea that truth, when expressed without modulation, can become socially disruptive- even dangerous. And that perhaps, in everyday life, there is a quieter virtue: The kindness of not always being right.
