Beschreibung

We continue to celebrate #100YearsofCorman by pushing the boundaries of our "Nearly New World" sub-series to 1993, when Roger Corman decided to beat JURASSIC PARK at its own game and made his own dinosaur movie, CARNOSAUR! Joining us for this episode is author Joseph R. Palinkas, the writer of the new book, History of Carnosaur, which delves into the entire CARNOSAUR franchise of films, which also includes DINOSAUR ISLAND and Jim Wynorski's RAPTOR. First, we discuss how Joseph discovered the CARNOSAUR franchise and his decision to write the book, the difficulties of writing a book about the CARNOSAUR movies, and then we dive into the first movie, writer/director Adam Simon's original CARNOSAUR, starring Diane Ladd, Raphael Sbarge, Jennifer Runyon, and Harrison Page! We talk chicken eggs, shelf-stable pie, and why it's important for a company not to leave the mad doctor they've just hired alone and with no oversight. Plus, Bobcats, hippies, and the scenes that didn't make the theatrical cut! Don't miss this dive into CARNOSAUR with someone who literally wrote the book on the subject! Then, go buy Joseph's book!  For more about the New World Pictures Podcast, including previous episodes, t-shirts, mugs, sweatshirts, other merch and more, we DARE YOU to head here: https://newworldpicturespodcast.com/ [https://newworldpicturespodcast.com/] For all the shows in Someone’s Favorite Productions Podcast Network, head here:  https://www.someonesfavoriteproductions.com/  [https://www.someonesfavoriteproductions.com/%C2%A0]

Episode Nearly New World: Star Slammer Cover

Nearly New World: Star Slammer

Sci-fi July: An Infinity of Titles keeps on rolling with 1986's STAR SLAMMER aka PRISON SHIP aka STAR SLAMMER: PRISON SHIP aka THE ADVENTURES OF TAURA: PRISON SHIP STAR SLAMMER.  Directed Fred Olen Ray, STAR SLAMMER (aka PRISON SHIP aka... you get it) blends comedy with sword and sandal movies, women in prison movies, sci-fi movies and girls just want to have fun movies into a taught hour and 26 minutes.   STAR SLAMMER stars Sandy Brook (They Call Me Bruce?) as Taura who is wrongly confined to a prison ship aka STAR SLAMMER (not again). In reality, STAR SLAMMER is little more than a prison-style all-inclusive resort where instead of sitting by the pool, you get pushed around by intimidating staff.  You get free food, alcohol, impromptu dance clubs and, the most coveted of experiences, solitary confinement. We get deep in this episode.  Erica asks the question everyone has been asking, "what is the purpose of a thong in space?" We discuss the effects of space travel on perms including whether the bends also have an effect. We discuss the best, bad-ass prison nicknames like "Sleep Apnea Bitch".  And we even spend some time talking about Radiohead.  Did you know they're big deep sea divers?  You will after listening to this episode.    Ultimately, STAR SLAMMER should be a must-eat menu item from Denny's.  You hear that, Denny's?  This is a free idea you should consider. Get on it before IHOP does. You're welcome. Sci-fi July: An Infinity of Titles has landed! Listeners Sci-fi July is going to out of this world this month starting with a banger 1986's sci-fi western, THE AURORA ENCOUNTER. We are joined this week by special guest James Kirkland making his NWPP debut. Episode Ep. 176: Autumn Sonata Cover

Ep. 176: Autumn Sonata

The time has come, dear listeners. The end of June Gloom 2: Down to Frown. We hope you enjoyed this annual, well, bi-annual -okay, occasional - trip into the dark abyss of the "saddies" released by New World Pictures. And for our closing film, do we have a sad film for you: 1978's AUTUMN SONATA aka HÖSTSONATEN, written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, and starring Ingrid Bergman, Liv Ullmann and Lena Nyman. It's a real Bergman-off, with double your Bergmans for all your crying (and whispering) pleasure! How did New World get their hands on this? We explain! How well did the Bergmans (not related) get along during filming? We'll tell you! What's the best elixir for get deep into conversation with you mom? You may know already, but we discuss, and imbibe! Was Bergman a "bro," we explore! And do you want stories about piano lessons from our actual life? You just lucked out! Trust us, 'ol Berg put together a wild movie, and so our episode follows suit, as we discuss the business Bergie should have dived into, delve into Berg Berg's personal life, and hey, are those pizza bites ready yet? Did the timer go off? Are we wrapped for the day or do we have to film more close-ups? Trust us, this is the episode of Bergman you don't want to miss!

Episode Interview Part 2 with director Fritz Kiersch (TUFF TURF, CHILDREN OF THE CORN) Cover

Interview Part 2 with director Fritz Kiersch (TUFF TURF, CHILDREN OF THE CORN)

A bucket list guest, director Fritz Kiersch, returns with the second half of our conversation that covers his move from the commercial world to the New World (ahem) of features starting with 1984's CHILDREN OF THE CORN and continuing with 1985's TUFF TURF as Fritz continued to deliver success after success for New World Pictures.  And because the movies Fritz directed were so well received, he was one of the few directors to get a three picture deal, which would eventually end with 1989's UNDER THE BOARDWALK (and, in our eyes, should have included 1987's WINNERS TAKE ALL).  We put CHILDREN OF THE CORN and TUFF TURF under the microscope and talk about the production of each, including casting, script changes, building a soundtrack, French New Wave, and what happened to the Cornmobile! As you will recall from the first part of our conversation with Fritz, he is as quick-witted and sharp as ever, so you don't want to miss this look back at two classic New World films.  Again, we cannot thank Fritz enough for sitting down with us for such an extended discussion of his career! Don't miss it!

Episode Ep. 175: Nashville Girl featuring Tommy Bechtold Cover

Ep. 175: Nashville Girl featuring Tommy Bechtold

June Gloom 2: Down to Frown is upon us dear listeners, and things are dark. Lucky for you, and us, we are joined this week by special guest and NWPPVIP Tommy Bechtold! Tommy is a comedian, and actor, and if you have been fortunate enough to see Tommy perform stand up or listened to our episodes on DEF-CON 4 [https://www.newworldpicturespodcast.com/ep-90-def-con-4-featuring-tommy-bechtold/], BEVERLY HILLS VAMP [https://www.newworldpicturespodcast.com/ep-145-beverly-hills-vamp-featuring-tommy-bechtold/], TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK [https://www.newworldpicturespodcast.com/ep-120-trial-of-the-incredible-hulk-featuring-tommy-bechtold/], you know he is hilarious. Truly a ray of sunshine in this otherwise gloomy month. In this episode we head down South to talk about 1976's NASHVILLE GIRL. Directed by Gus Trikonis (THE EVIL [https://www.newworldpicturespodcast.com/ep-19-the-evil/]), this 1970's hicksploitation film follows a 16-year-old runaway, played by Monica Gayle (SWITCHBLADE SISTERS), as she makes her way to the big city of Nashville (spoiler in the title!) to pursue a career in the music industry as a county singer.  In this episode,  we laugh, we cry, we ask whyyyyyy would anyone not listen to us explore diners, fashion, and the highly questionable choices of the 70s when newspapers were the gateway to all our dreams. And does this have anything to do with another film from the 70s with "Nashville" in the title? Listen and find out!
