Kidnapped Chapter 13 - The Loss of the Brig

In which a fierce and perilous night at sea finds the brig caught among treacherous reefs near the rugged coasts of Mull, and the hardy few on board strive with grim determination to steer clear of destruction. Forewarned and yet overwhelmed by the subtle tyranny of tide and tide-race, our narrator is cast into the cold embrace of the sea, only to battle onwards and at last reach the forsaken shore with weary limbs and a thankful heart.

In which our weary travellers find themselves imprisoned in a dark and silent chamber, surrounded by treasures that now seem worthless against the threat of death, and their despair gives way to cautious hope as they discover a hidden exit leading into a labyrinthine network of tunnels. Battling exhaustion, darkness, and a swift subterranean river, they finally emerge into the fresh air and the dawn, greeted by familiar faces whose joy echoes their own relief at this escape from the grave.
