This was originally published in May of 2023, but it came up in a live the other day so I thought I’d repost it. I want all the conservative apologists out there to read this. We need to have a better society. Incidents like this are too commonplace, and the blatant disrespect that comes from conservative ideology is responsible. Thanks for your support: 30% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/b66e5c2e] 💙 40% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/01f1b0e8] 💙 50% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/0d3e6643] 💙 60% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/6a8f4788] I. Am. Livid. For those of you about to tell me that I need to move, I realize your heart is in the right place. But answer me this: Move where? Where can I go where the cancer of disrespect and aggression that has infected the United States will not reach me? Abroad? Do you really think the United States doesn’t have influence on what happens abroad? Do you really think that there is anywhere you can go, anywhere in the world, where some entitled American won’t come up and spit in your child’s face? They don’t like you because of the color of your skin or the person that you love or the language that you speak, and they always feel they have the right to unprovoked aggression because they know there will never be consequences for the aggressors. This is America. No, fleeing is not the answer. Besides many people lack the resources to flee. But I’m not going to sit on my hands, harbor my strength, and allow entitled bigots to spit in the faces of innocent children. It may not be in the news so much anymore, but we’re still in a pandemic [https://www.osfhealthcare.org/blog/is-the-pandemic-over/]. Under normal circumstances, spitting in somebody’s face would be considered an unacceptable physical aggression. In an era of potentially lethal communicable diseases, spitting in somebody’s face should be considered criminal. What happened? Are we at the point now where something as simple as Spanish class is enough to trigger the entitled people in our society? Does a brainwashed boy who has been listening to his heroes chant, “Build the wall!” become enraged at the simple idea that a language besides English should be a topic of study in public school? Radical groups are already banning history in the form of legislation directed at critical race theory (CRT [https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2021/07/02/why-are-states-banning-critical-race-theory/]). Are boys who sit in Spanish class fuming at the suggestion that non-English speakers deserve the same respect and dignity as any other human being? Is that what’s going on? My family is an immigrant family. We speak Spanish in our home. Everybody in my family is fluent in Spanish. Of course, there’s no special consideration for my daughter at the local school district when it comes to her advanced abilities. We have IEPs [https://dpi.wi.gov/families-students/student-success/ccr-iep] for kids who are struggling. That is as it should be since education is a human right. However, why don’t we have IEPs for exceptional children? Why does my daughter, who probably has a better grasp of Spanish than the teacher, have to sit through basic lessons? Why can’t she be considered an assistant? Why can’t her skills be utilized to help the other kids? Why does she essentially have to sit there being bored and have her time wasted? Yesterday my daughter received a perfect score on her test. Her reward was that some boy in the class, whom she had never talked to before, marched over and spit in her face. That’s America for you. This is the result of all the hatred that’s been directed at immigrants for the last decade (and more). I warned you this was going to happen. Sooner or later, somebody’s going to spit in the face of your child too. I know the name of the boy who did it, but I’m guessing I’d face stiffer consequences for revealing it than he’s going to face for spitting in my daughter’s face. It’s my impression that America always offers more protections for aggressors than the innocent people they attack. I’m not the only one who has this impression. How I found out I found out this happened because my daughter told me. Actually, she told my wife and my wife told me. She said she knew it was going to make me upset. Imagine that, my daughter was trying to protect me from this. What’s the social programming responsible for that response? Already she knows that when she’s the target of aggression she’s expected to remain quiet? This is the lesson our society teaches! Do you know what should have happened? I should have been informed by the teacher. I should have received a written report with signatures from the principal, teacher, and school resource officer. They should have informed me that the aggressor had been removed from the classroom, and they should be asking if I want to file criminal charges. Instead, this got swept under the rug. “Boys will be boys.” BS. Now take a step back and consider this. What if it had been a student that spit in the face of a teacher, or the principal, or the school resource officer? I’m guessing that if that had happened, I’d have received a phone call within minutes. I’m guessing I would have been called in for a sit down. But when it’s my daughter getting spit on, there’s nothing. This is the selective perception [https://medium.com/afrosapiophile/selective-perception-helps-perpetuate-systems-of-racism-and-oppression-8827b7a4e1c3] that allows evil to flourish. Unless something happens directly to a person in power, nobody cares. Thanks for your support: 30% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/b66e5c2e] 💙 40% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/01f1b0e8] 💙 50% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/0d3e6643] 💙 60% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/6a8f4788] Cars in the parking lot Every day when I drop off my kids at school, I’m confronted with images of blatant aggression. There’s this guy who thinks it’s “cute” to put a decal of a hand grenade on his window. Every single day when I turn on the television, I have to watch a news report about another group of students that was slaughtered at a school. In that context, this guy thinks it’s okay to drive up to a school with a picture of a grenade on the back of his car? Then there’s this vehicle with the racist “Joe and the Hoe” sticker. These are common in my community. Hoe in this context, referring to a woman of color, is appallingly racist. The word refers to the Jezebel stereotype [https://aninjusticemag.com/joe-and-the-hoe-is-racist-evil-and-unacceptable-7817e7785ae6] that plantation owners used to “justify” raping their slaves. However, people will claim ignorance about this historical fact because they’ve managed to keep the harsh realities of the American slave era out of schools. Then there’s this guy who uses weapons of war to spell out a profanity, and also adds the racist phrase just for an additional kick in the teeth. Again, this is the kind of window decal you see in a country where children are routinely slaughtered. The profanity is written using the very images of the weapons of war that are used to murder children. Our society is okay with this? Our society is okay with this kind of image on display a few blocks from a school? You act like you’re surprised that kids get spit on. It seems to me that there are a lot of messages laying around that encourage people to spit on kids. My children have been harassed since 2016 For years, ignorant men wearing red hats have been getting in the face of my wife and kids and screaming, “Build the wall!” However, our society fails to recognize that represents hate speech. In 2021, an armed mob was allowed to attack the Capitol. The consequences have been slow in coming. We’re all told that we should “forget about it” and “move on.” I’ve been the target of physical attacks in the past. In the heat of the moment, somebody punches you in the face and gives you a bloody nose. You’re the one who bleeds. You’re the one who is humiliated. You’re the one who is laughed at. But then, when the time for consequences come, people start saying, “Oh, that’s in the past. Why can’t you let it go? Why do you have to insist on ruining somebody’s life?” The result is that the innocent party is attacked twice. You suffer the initial attack, then you have to suffer the smear campaign when you try to take action to ensure the same abuse doesn’t happen again. But you’ve got to understand that the type of person that would spit in your face isn’t sincere about his remorse. He’s not sorry he spat on you, he’s sorry he might get in trouble for it. The second the heat is turned down, he’s going to go and spit on somebody else. The answer to aggressive people isn’t to sit back and endure their behavior. The answer is to hold them accountable. In fact, if you let them get away with it, their behavior is only going to get worse. Look around. We’re seeing it. It started with “We speak English in America,” then it moved on to “Build the wall!” now they’re spitting in my daughter’s face. A year ago I was with a search party that recovered the body [https://aninjusticemag.com/i-absolutely-blame-trumps-hate-rhetoric-for-the-murder-and-rape-of-a-child-in-my-city-e99120db7d88] of a dead 11 year old girl. We need to take action at stage one because we can’t bring back the dead. My district is considered one of the good ones A few weeks ago I attended an event put on by the local school district. At that event, a woman mentioned [https://medium.com/an-injustice/if-there-is-a-parental-bill-of-rights-there-should-also-be-an-educators-bill-of-rights-1d27035a6c30] that she’d recently moved up from Tennessee after the research she did indicated that our area had a good reputation as a place that was safe for members of the LGBTQ community. That may be the case, but we still had an 11 year old girl get raped and murdered last year. A boy felt entitled to spit on my daughter. I don’t feel any impulse to go patting anyone on the back. A jailer brings you food once a day, that doesn’t make up for the abuses he allows. I only mention this because it brings us back to my statement from the beginning of the article. Some people, whose heart is in the right place, will tell you, “You need to move.” No. That’s the wrong response. There are people who can’t move. There’s no place you can go. We have to stop running away. Instead, we have to stand up to the aggression. We have to make it stop. Stop normalizing disrespectful behavior Take down the flags. Scrape the decals off your car. Quit screaming profanities. Put an end to the racist political slogans. Put the corrupt politicians and the violent aggressors in jail. There aren’t “extremists on both sides.” The extremists are all on the right and we have to overcome the conditioning which makes us think our only solution is to passively endure [https://readcultured.com/its-triggering-to-observe-the-fascist-privilege-whenever-trump-speaks-8115f060f5d8] their incrementally worsening aggression. If you observe evil and do nothing, you’re just as bad. It’s my intention to file criminal charges against the kid who spit on my daughter. It shouldn’t have happened. We’ve got to stop handing power over to abusers in the form of sparing them for any consequences for their actions. Let’s hand over power to the good people who don’t attack the innocent in the first place. Episode Meet Missouri Congressional Candidate Tommy Holstein Cover

Meet Missouri Congressional Candidate Tommy Holstein

It was my pleasure to sit down with Tommy Holstein [https://substack.com/profile/515493603-tommy-holstein] and my good friend A. Eevie Bateman [https://substack.com/profile/443649430-a-eevie-bateman]. I found Tommy to be thoughtful and willing to listen to our concerns about the future of our country. It struck me how he would often pause and consider how to answer before speaking. That’s good because it means he was not deferring to predetermined talking points. The more I do interviews with the new generation of candidates, the more hopeful I become. We have people of integrity who are fed up with the way our government has been mistreating us. They are getting out into the community and making their perspective known. It’s glorious. If you want to learn more about Tommy or support his campaign, you can find his webpage here: Tommy Holstein for Congress [https://www.holsteinformo.org/] Also, subscribe to Eevie here: Thank you LeftieProf [https://substack.com/profile/116079548-leftieprof], PJ Schuster [https://substack.com/profile/106448962-pj-schuster], Stuart Cohen [https://substack.com/profile/351205065-stuart-cohen], Cathy Stein [https://substack.com/profile/318670950-cathy-stein], Jason Gael [https://substack.com/profile/565121-jason-gael], and many others for tuning into my live video with A. Episode I. Need. Your. Help! Cover

I. Need. Your. Help!

If you can help out with a sponsorship, it makes all the difference. I realize everyone is up against the wall economically. But the larger this newsletter becomes, the more we can influence who wields power in this country. Anything you can offer is much appreciated: Discount tiers. Thanks for your support: 30% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/b66e5c2e] 💙 40% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/01f1b0e8] 💙 50% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/0d3e6643] 💙 60% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/6a8f4788] Even now, the American public has not fully awakened to the crisis we’re facing. The conservative members of the Supreme court have transformed the body into the court of white supremacy. They’ve gutted the voting rights act. They’ve already robbed women of their bodily autonomy. Even so, there are still politicians who insist they should be “reaching across the aisle.” At this point it should be clear that the only reason you should reach across the aisle is to put a Republican in handcuffs. A big part of the problem is that the media is little more than a propaganda mechanism. They suppress the truth. They suppress the weaknesses of the regime. They tell only lies. Even many independent creators are acting as the abusive “flying monkeys” of a malignant narcissist. Many of them do it without a full awareness of their complicity. The problem is that they’ve been programmed by a white supremacy enabling status quo. On an unconscious level, they know the limits of the pressure they can apply. They come up against these barriers and they stop. They confuse decorum for truth and they allow abusers to avoid pressure again and again. We’ll often see our big name creators interview politicians like Hakeem Jeffries. The dance is always the same. They’ll exchange pleasantries. Then, at some point, the interviewer will bring up AIPAC. They’ll bring it up as if embarrassed. They’ll give a little nod and a wink to Hakeem as if to say, “I know this is uncomfortable but my readers expect this of me.” Then Hakeem will deflect and deny and even get a little angry. The message is clear. He’s not going to answer the question, and frankly he’s disappointed that the interviewer will even ask. At no point does Hakeem say he’ll stop taking that money. Then the interview ends, and the interviewer thanks Hakeem for being there, and Hakeem smiles and says it’s always a pleasure and he’ll be happy to return any time. It’s all a song and dance. It’s all a joke. Unfortunately, the readers watch that and think, “Wow, this creator really applied some pressure! He really hates AIPAC!” But the fact is, Hakeem Jeffries doesn’t feel any pressure from that. He expressed some performance frustration, but he’s never really pushed to back down from what he feels is his entitlement as an enabler of authoritarianism. Our representatives think they’re untouchable. They think that once they’ve earned a seat of power, it’s theirs forever. That’s the problem. We have to remind them that they have their power by the consent of the governed. This idea that they would get haughty on a show when they’re asked reasonable questions is a problem. That our creators abide by the false and artificial boundaries that enable authoritarianism is also a problem. It’s time that we shook off our submissive thinking and grabbed back control of our country. The simple fact is that creators don’t apply any pressure to our Democratic representatives by tossing them a few softball questions and then enduring their performative outrage. Get this through your head: Our current crop of Democrats is never going to stop taking AIPAC money just because we ask them. We have to pressure them. Again, we don’t pressure our representatives by inviting them to interviews. We DO apply significant pressure when we platform their progressive challengers who have already declared that they will not take AIPAC money. That’s where the pressure is! The problem is that our existing media mechanism has been built to undermine the primaries. Democrats don’t want primaries because they rightfully see a legitimate political debate as a threat to their power. Thanks for your support: 30% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/b66e5c2e] 💙 40% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/01f1b0e8] 💙 50% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/0d3e6643] 💙 60% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/6a8f4788] Primaries are a performance review. Our representatives should have to sit for that just like anyone else. Any creator that wants to effectively apply pressure to our seated representatives can do so by providing a platform to their challengers. I’ve been interviewing progressive challengers for months. I know that I’ve been overwhelming the inboxes of my subscribers with these interviews. I know it’s probably frustrating to get so many emails from me. In fact, I’ve probably lost subscribers because I’m doing this. But I’m going to keep doing it. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. The American voting public needs to be awakened to their power. I get that everyone is the focal point of economic terrorism. Things are so desperate that we don’t have time to reflect on how unfair the whole system is. Unfortunately, the big creators out there leverage that for their own gain. They’re contentedly pulling in millions of dollars a year conducting worthless, easy interviews with our representatives. Then our representatives are emboldened to go out and do absolutely nothing for us. How do we change that? We change that by elevating candidates who declare that they are willing to FIGHT! That’s the kind of pressure we need to see. I’ve already heard of it happening in some of the races I’ve been covering. Incumbents hear that their challengers are gaining steam. When that happens, the Incumbent takes the cucumber slices off his eyes, and changes from a bathrobe to a suit. Then they take to the streets to actually start talking to people. When they feel the pressure they are roused. When they feel the pressure they start to act. We need action NOW! But even if they do start to work for us, we need to vote them out anyway. The problem is that our ability to apply pressure has been muted by the fact that our large platform creators refuse to recognize the existence of primary challengers. The simple fact is that these creators are cowards. They are so desperate to maintain their access to power, that they’ve forgotten they already have the power! Thanks for your support: 30% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/b66e5c2e] 💙 40% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/01f1b0e8] 💙 50% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/0d3e6643] 💙 60% off [https://walterrhein.substack.com/6a8f4788] The media has the power to determine which candidates represent us. But I look around our media, even our independent media, and I see “journalists” who have abdicated their responsibility in exchange for ease. They have huge followings, so they don’t want to rock the boat. But what they fail to recognize is that the boat they’re floating along in is a slave ship. They’ve insulated themselves in a luxury cabin, but they’re indifferent to the suffering that’s happening all around. That makes them enablers. We need to shake off this attitude that the media should never make our representatives feel uncomfortable. By “discomfort” I don’t mean asking them one or two hard edged questions in an ocean of trivial banter. I mean actively working for candidates of integrity who are campaigning to take the do-nothing incumbent’s job! Is that aggressive? Hell yeah it is! But look around! Children are getting raped in concentration camps. It’s not our responsibility to ensure our representatives feel comfortable. I believe our representatives should feel as uncomfortable as the people they’ve betrayed. So I’m asking for everyone to shake off their apathy and be more discerning in how you consume the media. If a creator or a politician is willing to interview a right-wing extremist, but not a person of achievement, you have to recognize that the creator is just as much an enemy as the extremist views they’re normalizing. As readers, we can apply pressure! The best way to apply pressure is to withdraw your support. Tell the creators with huge platforms that if they’re going to interview Hakeem Jeffries, they should also interview his challenger Vance Bostic [https://www.vancebforny8.com/] (I’ve reached out to Vance and he hasn’t gotten back to me yet). It’s not the media’s job to determine which challengers are “serious.” If people have filed the paperwork, if they’ve gotten the signatures, then they deserve the same media attention as the incumbents. We have to stop allowing our media to put their finger on the scales and deprive the American people of their voting power. Currently we allow our creators to sleepwalk through their performative activism. They do a few “fire and brimstone” clips that don’t accomplish anything. Do you want to accomplish something? Then use the primaries to replace this generation of do-nothing Democrats with a new generation of fighters. We need people with new ideas, not dinosaurs who have grown complacent because they’ve been in office since before the 8-track was invented. I have a great group of collaborators that’s working hard to elevate primary challengers. Friends, this is working! Some of the sitting incumbents are feeling the pressure. Unfortunately, we’re short on time and my platform isn’t large enough to land the knock-out blow we need. Please go out and recruit. Get more people on this newsletter. Spread the word. Most importantly, share each individual interview I’ve collected here [https://walterrhein.substack.com/p/check-out-this-list-of-amazing-political]. If you have the means to sponsor me, that also helps to keep my work from being suppressed. There are a lot of creators out there who claim they are against politicians taking AIPAC money. However, if those creators aren’t actively working to promote primary challengers, then those creators are just going through the motions of performative activism. Creators with large platforms actually have the power to pressure our representatives to not be corrupt. They are failing in their obligation. Go and look at the creators you support. If you withdraw your support, you can pressure them to do better.
