In this episode I'm joined first by Andrew Allen to discuss the 2-1 defeat to PSG on Wednesday evening. We analyse the match, Arsenal's bright start and those early chances, PSG's goals coming from our own errors, the tactical decision to go long so early in the second half, the fact we didn't use Ethan Nwaneri even when we needed a goal, the heroics of Gianluigi Donnarumma, the evergreen discussion of the Gunners firepower and lots more. Then I have a quick chat with James to get his reflections on the night and the tie overall, where it leaves Arsenal for what remains of this season, how we navigate the remaining fixtures, and whether the solution this summer is as simple as adding forwards. In this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim and Jamie analyse Arsenal’s 4-2 defeat to Brighton on Monday that leaves them needing a point against Manchester United on the final day to seal 2nd place. They talk about Arsenal’s issues with Brighton’s press, familiar vulnerabilities to pace and power through the middle of the team, as well as the trade-off between greater fluidity and chance creation under Renee Slegers but greater vulnerability to counter-attacks. In the second half, there are questions about the goalkeeping situation, how to defend better against counter attacks and whether there is a mentality issue with conceding goals in clusters. In this episode we look back at Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth. Mikel Arteta picked a strong side ahead of Wednesday's clash with PSG, did that play a part in how people felt about losing this game? We chat about the line-up, going ahead before being pegged back, substitutions and their timing and the message that sends, full-time reaction, recent league form, and our issues with goalscoring which have been a constant theme this season. Then we answer listener questions, few of which are about PSG, but we deal with how the team has performed in adversity this season, whether Arteta needs to let the reins loose a little, creativity in midfield, Max Dowman, Martin Odegaard, the captaincy and lots more. In this episode I'm joined by Tom Canton of Football London to discuss Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League semi-final first leg last night. We discuss the way the visitors dominated the opening stages – were they very good or were the Gunners bad? We analyse the goal we conceded, and some of their other chances, before we look at the opportunities Mikel Arteta's side had to score through Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. We also had a goal disallowed, but were probably fortunate in the end that PSG didn't score again. There's also some chat about the fans/atmosphere, and how the tie is poised going into the second leg in Paris next week. In this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim and Jamie look back over Arsenal’s 4-1 triumph in Lyon that sends them to the Champions League Final against Barcelona in Lisbon on May 24. They discuss the tactical differences between the first and second legs, how the early goal changed the tie and allowed Arsenal to control the game. There are in-depth looks at the performances of Kim Little, Mariona and Frida Maanum as well as consideration of how Lyon’s changes helped Arsenal. Then in part two there are listener questions from Bluesky on the final, why Arsenal have mounted so many UWCL comebacks and how being in the final aids summer recruitment.
