On today's Sunday podcast, Isaac and Ari jump back into the Kilmar Abrego Garcia controversy. And then we talk about all the things we don't know that we think we do know including this kind of shocking story on ADHD that was published in the New York Times Magazine. Ari talks about some tariff disagreements he has with me. Then we bring on Tangle team member and Senior at Harvard University Audrey Moorehead to talk more about Harvard and some of the controversy happening there. And, as always, the Airing of Grievances. On April 10, the House of Representatives passed [https://www.readtangle.com/r/11cc1c18?m=952b3d4f-41d1-4b12-988c-5556489b33d3] the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a bill requiring proof of citizenship for voters to register for federal elections. The bill passed [https://www.readtangle.com/r/708b0dca?m=952b3d4f-41d1-4b12-988c-5556489b33d3] the House 220–208, with all Republicans and four Democrats in favor. House Republicans attempted to pass the SAVE Act in September 2024 as part of a government-funding bill, but the chamber voted 220–202 [https://www.readtangle.com/r/b83ed6c6?m=952b3d4f-41d1-4b12-988c-5556489b33d3] against that version of the bill. The SAVE Act must secure at least 60 votes in the Senate to meet the filibuster threshold, meaning seven Democrats would have to join all Republicans to pass it. So far, Democratic leaders have urged [https://www.readtangle.com/r/6b8082a1?m=952b3d4f-41d1-4b12-988c-5556489b33d3] members to vote against the bill. In today’s Friday edition, we’ll explore the key questions undergirding the debate over the SAVE Act. In typical Tangle style, we’ll share a range of arguments about the bill from the right and left, in addition to commentary from experts we interviewed for this piece. Then, we’ll give our analysis of the bill. This is the full episode of today's special edition. Friday editions are normally available in full and ad-free for our premium podcast subscribers.
