Hope you enjoy, - D What is Grief? * Grief is the response to loss, particularly to the loss of someone or some living thing that has died, to which a bond or affection was formed. * Grief is a natural response to loss. It’s the emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away. Often, the pain of loss can feel overwhelming. You may experience all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness. The pain of grief can also disrupt your physical health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. These are normal reactions to loss—and the more significant the loss, the more intense your grief will be. * Death: the irreversible cessation of all vital functions * Mourn: to show deep sorrow or regret for someone or their death (grief is the feeling or the emotion, mourning is the action that comes from the grief Forms of Death/things we grieve) 1. Physical (a person through death) [Ecclesiastes 3:19-20] 2. Cognitive (a thought, way of life/reasoning) [Romans 12:1-3] 3. Behavioral (old you vs the new you) [2 Corinthians 5:17] 4. Social (people who aren’t in your life anymore due to circumstances) [Psalm 41:9] 5. Cultural (grieving on behalf of your community this could be because of physical death, or death of an idea/circumstance).[Lamentations 2:18-19] 6. Spiritual (dying to your spirit & submitting to the Holy Spirit). [Romans 8:13] Normalizing Grief as a Believer * Oftentimes we believe that grief or death is the ending of something & while that is true it is also the beginning of something new. When something dies, something is also birthed and as believers it is meant for us to have a life of grief. We should not be so caught off guard when it comes to death. This is no way shape or form invalidates your feelings at all, grief is HARD! I’ve experienced & am still dealing with it and it has been very difficult but I’m saying that we have to take the shades off and view it with a different lens. There is light and life at the end of grief, you don’t have to wallow in sadness & darkness, there has to be a point in time when you take the shades off! * Allow yourself to mourn! God says blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted (Matthew 5:4)
