The Audacity To Hope

When the topic of the 2024 Election comes up Black women have been bracing for impact. Will we be subjected to hairbrained ideas explaining the results? Or will we be forced to sooth our co-workers as they process the “ish” we already knew; this country is a terrible place for marginalized people, especially Black women.  A study by the University of Colorado estimates a 24% increase in maternal deaths [https://www.colorado.edu/today/2022/06/30/abortion-bans-increase-maternal-mortality-even-more-study-shows] if the United States bans abortion federally. They predicted the increase would be even higher for Black patients, at 39%. While your co-workers look for comfort you remember we are not new to this, we’re true to this. The Audacity To Be Triggered About Sonya

On July 6th, 2024 Sonya Massey [https://thegrio.com/2024/07/19/sonya-masseys-death-is-a-reminder-that-even-calling-the-police-for-help-has-deadly-consequences-for-us/#google_vignette] called the police to her home in fear of a home intruder. Body cam footage spread all over the internet of her last moments. We watched her call out the true demon in her home, and that principality ended her life and disrespected her body. This word gives us the ick, but here on the Audacity Podcast, we are triggered. Many black women facing racial trauma are living in a prolonged state of PTSD. No matter where we are, our worlds aren’t safe from microaggressions or even physical violence.
