A five tonne rocket launched into space by Elon Musk’s SpaceX last year is expected to have collided with the Moon overnight leaving a huge crater. Nathalie Ouellette, Deputy Director of the Trottier Institute for Research on Exoplanets at the Université de Montréal, takes us through what happened, what we can learn from the collision and what precautions should be considered for future lunar exploration.
