Ep. 11: Parenting Takes A Village with Jenna Crump

Hello and Happy Mindful Monday!  On this week's episode of The Mindful Movement Show our guest, Jenna Crump, shares her story of growing up with a bipolar mom, living through divorce, getting married and divorced at a young age, and moving in with her best friends to create a village-style family structure.  The episode offers very clear and inspiring examples of how breath-to-movement exercise can help develop flexibility in all situations. We also go deep on the questions of what it means to raise resilient kids who are self-aware, practice kindness and compassion, and embrace their own uniqueness.  Jenna is the illustrator on our kids books, The Magnificent Blue Butterfly and Bodies of Water. She uses art and creative expression as an outlet and her talents are incredible. In the episode we discuss our future projects and the importance of putting out content that allows families to spend quality time together doing things that impart great lessons for our kiddos.  If you're a mom or dad looking for inspiration, community, or accountability in the process of achieving your goals - consider joining the Mindful and Fit Family! We are a group of folks working to evolve and grow our health in holistic ways. We share struggles, accomplishments, and support one another to live in alignment. That way we can show up in the world in ways that are true to who we are at our essence and be the best people, partners, and parents we can be.

Ep. 10 - Movement is Medicine with Kelly Young

Hey Mindful and Fit Fam! Happy Mindful Monday!  This week it is our pleasure to have Kelly Young on the show. Kelly is a wife, mother of four kiddos, and an amazing fitness trainer and business owner. She owns and operates INERGY (an indoor fitness facility) while also offering her famous outdoor classes, known as Kelly’s Bootcamp. She has been in the fitness industry for 25 years and has a Master’s degree in Public Health. Her motto for her clients is “get what you came for.” She has always aspired to get people to exercise (especially those that wouldn’t otherwise), make it affordable, require accountability, and to have fun. This week's episode is called Movement is Medicine. One of Kelly's mantras is "there isn't anything a good workout can't fix." She promotes working out to increase energy, promote community and learn to love your body. In the episode we discuss a bit about her upbringing and relationship to mental health, how she managed to grow a successful AND impactful business while juggling her own fitness and role of being a mom of four, and we give her the opportunity to showcase some of the wisdom and inspiration about the future of the public health situation in our country.

He vulnerably shares his story of turning pain into purpose and offers advice for those of you who might be struggling with identity crisis, illness or disease, or family issues. episode Ep. 8: The Im(possibilities) of Black Parenting with Ignacio Evans artwork

Ep. 8: The Im(possibilities) of Black Parenting with Ignacio Evans

Greetings Mindful and Fit Fam! This week we have Ignacio Evans on the show. "Iggy" is a PhD Candidate in Communication at the University of California at San Diego. He is also a father, national championship debater and debate coach, and a shining example of wisdom, resilience and perseverance we can all learn something from. His professional expertise is in advocacy, diversity leadership and public speaking. He is an expert at building curriculum to meet students where they are and help them level up their performance and knowledge. In this episode, we discuss his background and scholarship, specifically looking at his most recent presentation on black parenting and impossibility to explore the ways in which race implicates constructions of what it means to be a good or bad parent, and we dream about what it would mean to live in a world where everyone cared about black life with audacity and created moments and futures for and of black kids we care about. We also discuss gentle parenting and what it means to validate our kids' experiences and allow them to have their own voice, how to confront generational trauma, and so much more.  We highly encourage you to tune in or share this episode with anyone who desires to better understand how race operates in parenting. The truth is, educating yourself and gaining awareness plays an important part in creating a future that is more peaceful and equitable.  You can find Ignacio on social media, here. episode Ep. 7 Stop People Pleasing and End Cycles of Shaming Yourself with Elle Black artwork

Ep. 7 Stop People Pleasing and End Cycles of Shaming Yourself with Elle Black

This week on The Mindful Movement Show, we feature a conversation with our friend, Elle Black. Elle is a mother of two littles and a mentor to stay at home mamma's. After a decade working in mental health counseling and focusing on helping people work through trauma, she transitioned to use her experience and personal journey of becoming to help moms become obsessed with their lives by creating more fun, ease, fulfillment, and presence as they enjoy time with their littles. But you don't have to be a mom, or stay at home to benefit from the wisdom, knowledge, and insight she drops in our conversation. We go deep and discuss the ways she ended her people pleasing tendencies, learned to authentically express emotions and boundaries, how to do the inner work to overcome shame, and the ways in which mindfulness can help us notice our emotions without attaching to a specific one for too long. This is an episode you do not want to miss. Look for it on Monday wherever you listen to podcasts AND on our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@mindfulandfit
