She also had a tremendous passion for inspiring women and youth, taking on the role of a real life mermaid. She was living the dream until she started to get ill and found herself barely able to get out of bed. Like many she too went from doctor to doctor until someone finally told her that it could be mold. Her story and journey to finding answers is so powerful. She is now on the path to recovery and we are honored that she came on to share her story with Malachi's Message Foundation. For the past 20 years Karen Ferris has been known as "The Mold Attorney of Texas." But many don't know her personal story with toxic mold. Prior to legally representing those going through mold, Karen was an active and successful employment attorney. She loved running, biking and skiing. But this all changed in 1997 when she moved into an apartment during her divorce. Suddenly she started to get ill. None of the prescriptions that she was given were helping any of her sudden on-set of debilitating symptoms. Then, one day she saw her complex on the news. Someone was suing them for mold; that is when she knew what was the root cause to all of her health issues. Being the fierce fighter that she is, she sued the complex and represented herself. From there, she made it her mission to fight for others that have been affected by toxic mold and make sure that they get the justice that they deserve. She knows first hand that mold can change your life and cause you permanent damage. To this day, Karen is still on seizure medication and still suffers from neuropathy.
