Hey 👋, I’m Jonathan Pototschnik—my friends call me JP. If you’ve heard of me, it’s probably because I’ve had some big wins in home services over the last 15 years, building multiple 8-figure companies and selling a software business. But what you didn’t see were the years before that—trying different businesses, walking away from businesses that made great money but weren’t what I wanted for my life, and pushing through times when I felt like I was giving everything but barely keeping up with life at home with my wife and boys. I lost three years and $100k on my first ‘real’ business in my mid-20s. I spent years building another company only to give back my equity and walk away. People see success, but they don’t see the long, exhausting, and uncertain road it took to get here—just like the one you might be on now. This channel is where I share what I’ve learned—what worked, what didn’t, and what I’d do differently. I don’t have a grand plan for this. Maybe I’ll coach again (I used to own a coaching business). Maybe I’ll help young entrepreneurs. Maybe I’ll start another software company (probably not). I just know that sharing what I’ve learned is valuable, and I enjoy it.  Plus, it keeps my options open. It’s always good to have an audience and be known. If you’re building something and want to avoid years of trial and error, stick around. I’ve got a few ideas to share.   Curious why I named this channel 5ForFifty?  Here’s what I believe: https://youtu.be/taeJ95dCwcw - Jonathan 0:00 Intro 2:12 Phase 1: Foundational (Build the Infrastructure) 2:58 Create a Strong Website 7:53 Fully Optimize Your Google Business Profile 9:17 Set Up Basic Tracking 12:43 Claim & Optimize Listing Sites 16:01 Phase 2: Every Single Job (Non-Negotiable Habits) 16:21 Add Magnetic Signs to Your Vehicles 20:05 Ask Every Customer for a Google Review 23:26 Create Before-and-After Photos & Videos 25:49 Phase 3: Expand Your Reach 26:17 Get Active in Facebook Groups & Nextdoor 28:05 Put Out Yard Signs in Neighborhoods You Work In 29:41 Use Door Hangers in Neighborhoods You Work In 33:47 Door Knocking with a Brochure + Gift Card Offer 38:47 Phase 4: Build Systems 38:54 Start a Simple Referral Program 40:55 Build an Email or Text Follow-Up System 45:35 Phase 5: Relationships (Long-Term Play) 45:58 Build JV Relationships 49:29 Partner with General Contractors

You'll Watch This, Agree With Everything, and Change Nothing

Most business owners watch, nod along, and go right back to what they were doing. This video is for the ones who don't. I'm answering 9 questions submitted by subscribers — the ones that actually matter: why discounts are hurting your brand, what marketing is actually working in 2026, when grinding is a sign of a failed strategy, how to stack value so price stops being the decision, and more. No fluff. No theory. Just the thinking that moves the needle. Pick one thing from this video. Work on it this week. 0:00 Intro 00:55 The Discount Trap 07:14 What Marketing Actually Works in 2026 14:49 When to Hire a GM (And When Not To) 19:49 Building a Recruiting Pipeline That Never Runs Dry 25:23 The Real Future of AI for Local Businesses 35:39 Open Books vs. Open Metrics 40:08 When Grinding Is a Sign Your Strategy Is Broken 47:58 Replacing Roles With AI Tools 51:17 Why Price Stops Mattering When You Do This ▸▸ Want my Roadmaps for Free?  Go here: https://5forfifty.com/resources/ 🍿 Watch this next: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JiRbJBGh6o 🔔 If you want me to keep creating content for you, please Subscribe WHO AM I? Home Service Growth Is Stalling — And It's About to Get Worse

Home service growth isn’t crashing… it’s quietly stalling. Remember the Yellow Pages? It didn’t disappear overnight. It just kept working… a little worse each year—until it didn’t work at all. I believe we’re entering a similar shift right now. Home service companies are still following the same playbook: websites, Google reviews, SEO, ads… And it still works. But something underneath is changing. Consumers are starting to search differently. Fewer clicks. Fewer options. Fewer chances to get picked. And when buyers only see a handful of options… what happens to everyone else? Most businesses won’t notice the shift right away. They’ll blame the economy. Competition. Seasonality. Just like before. But by the time it’s obvious… it’s already too late. This video breaks down what’s actually happening—and why the companies that adapt early will have a massive advantage. ▸▸ Want my Roadmaps for Free?  Go here: https://5forfifty.com/resources/ 🍿 Watch this next: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JiRbJBGh6o 🔔 If you want me to keep creating content for you, please Subscribe WHO AM I?
