Episode 3: How team-based science shapes research in post-Helene North Carolina with Dr. Maggie Sugg and Sophie Ryan

In the first feature episode of The Making of a Paper, join co-hosts Hridith Sudev and Elizabeth Rojo as they go behind the scenes with Dr. Maggie Sugg, Associate Professor of Geography and Planning at Appalachian State University, and Sophie Ryan, Data Analyst at the Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness and PhD candidate at UNC Chapel Hill. Their recent AJPH publication examines changes in mental health and substance use emergency department utilization in Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. We talk team-based science in a post-disaster rural context, community resilience and engagement, and lessons for early-career public health researchers.
