Aligned By Faith
In this episode, I share how my perspective on the Fourth of July has evolved over the years and why getting sober in 2019 changed the way I experience holidays. My feelings about this holiday aren’t based on one thing alone. They’re shaped by personal growth, sobriety, and difficult experiences that have occurred around this time of year. As I’ve healed, I’ve found myself seeing the holiday through a different lens. Today, fireworks no longer feel like a celebration to me. Instead, I think about their impact on wildlife, pets, nature, and communities, and I find myself asking whether some traditions still align with the values of peace, compassion, and intentional living. This episode isn’t about telling anyone how they should celebrate. It’s an invitation to reflect on how our experiences shape us, to honor the ways we grow and change, and to give ourselves permission to choose what aligns with our values. I close with a question that has become a guiding principle in my own life: Everything may be permissible, but is it beneficial? What if we filtered our choices—not just around holidays, but in every area of life—through the lens of peace, alignment, and intention? If you’ve ever found your perspective changing because of life’s experiences, or you’ve felt called to protect your peace even when it means doing things differently, I hope this conversation encourages you to trust your own journey.
