🎙️ The Inner Mic Podcast: The Cost of the Title—PhDs, Transparency, and Trust in Mental Health

In this thought-provoking episode of The Inner Mic Podcast, Lauren, Dr. Jeff, Calvin, and Future PhD Portia dive into the realities behind earning a PhD and the sacrifices that often go unseen. From long nights of research and dissertation writing to balancing family, careers, and personal well-being, the panel discusses what it truly takes to earn the title of "Doctor." The conversation also explores the public reaction to Dr. Cheyenne Bryant's statement that she does not need to prove to anyone that she has a PhD. Why did her comments spark such strong emotional responses? Is the debate really about credentials, or is it about transparency, trust, and accountability in the helping professions? Together, the hosts examine the expectations placed on public-facing mental health professionals, the importance of transparency in clinical practice, and how professional identity intersects with public perception. They also discuss the challenges of being a respected clinician in the age of social media and what consumers of mental health content should consider when evaluating expertise. Join us for an honest conversation about education, credibility, sacrifice, and the evolving landscape of mental health care. #TheInnerMicPodcast #MentalHealth #PhDJourney #CounselingProfession #ProfessionalIdentity #Transparency #ClinicalPractice #MentalHealthAwareness

The Garden of Esther

We have some exciting news to share—we’re officially rebranding our podcast. B.Well is now The Inner Mic Podcast. This change comes from a place of growth and clarity. We wanted a name that feels more distinct, more reflective of who we are, and what we’re building together. As we looked around, we realized there are so many voices and projects connected to “B.Well,” and we wanted something that truly stands apart while still staying rooted in authenticity, healing, and real conversation. So with that… welcome to The Inner Mic Podcast. Our first episode under the new name is a special one. We’re joined by our good friend T—school counselor, local artist, and someone whose creativity runs deep and honest. In this conversation, we talk about her inspiration, her motivation, and the journey behind her new album, The Garden of Esther. It’s a meaningful start to this new chapter, and we’re grateful to have you with us as we step into it.

Jeff Well Black History Month Recap

In this special Justice to Wellness Black History Month recap episode of the Be Well Podcast, we take a moment to reflect on the powerful ways we honored, celebrated, and engaged with Black history throughout the month of February. From community conversations to personal reflections, we share what we’ve been doing all month and why it felt important to pause, gather our thoughts, and capture those experiences in a meaningful podcast episode. We also take a deeper dive into the lessons on family, relationships, and parenthood that emerged while revisiting iconic Black 90s sitcoms. These shows didn’t just entertain us—they modeled love, discipline, humor, resilience, and community in ways that continue to shape how we think about wellness and connection today. Through this conversation, we explore the examples these shows set, the values they highlighted, and how those portrayals still influence how we navigate family and relationships in our own lives. Join us as we reflect, laugh, and unpack the cultural impact of these moments—connecting the legacy of Black storytelling with the ongoing journey from justice to wellness.
