She started by selling veils out of her apartment. By 2025, she had two bridal boutiques in Ottawa — and a plan to put them both under one roof. In this episode of the BOSS Podcast, host Mindi Linscombe sits down with Abby, owner of Never Knew (off-the-rack) and Always Knew (made-to-order), to talk about the fast, furious, and intentional growth behind one of Canada's most exciting bridal businesses. This isn't a "follow your dreams" story. It's a story about reading the data, knowing when to delegate, building a team you can actually trust (yes, including your sister), and figuring out what you should actually be doing in your own business. If you're a bridal shop owner who's juggling too much, second-guessing your model, or wondering whether two locations is a smart move or a chaotic one — this episode is for you. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 — Welcome & Intro 00:24 — How Abby's business actually started (hint: it wasn't a bridal store) 01:30 — The consignment pop-up that changed everything 02:20 — Building a team with her sister + defining roles intentionally 03:19 — Party princess, side hustles, and the entrepreneurial mindset 04:30 — A week in the life: marketing, buying season & Saturday appointments 05:40 — Growing up with hustlers — where her confidence came from 07:18 — Why personal branding matters more than she realized 08:00 — The word-of-mouth mistake she wishes she'd fixed sooner 09:30 — What's ahead: community, connection, and the future of bridal retail 11:18 — Abby's final advice for bridal shop owners 🔗 FOLLOW ABBY: 📍 Never Knew I Needed: https://nkin.ca/?srsltid=AfmBOoqkl71uA8schd_ESywa0ki9_-G1OV6xbrUaFj4I-HrbTGr64loe 📍 Always Knew: https://alwaysknew.ca 🔗 FOLLOW MINDI + BOSS: 🌐 Learn about BOSS (Business Owner Success School): https://www.bridalownersuccess.com 📲 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bridalownersuccess/ 📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bridalownersuccess/ 🎟️ READY TO STOP SURVIVING AND START RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS LIKE A CEO? Starting a Bridal Boutique From a Bankrupt Store's Inventory With Megan Kelly | Thistle Rose Bridal

Megan Kelly took a manager job at Alfred Angelo hoping for shorter hours after having her first son. When the company filed bankruptcy and shut its doors, she drove past her old location, saw the dresses still sitting in the window, and made a call that changed everything. In this episode, Megan shares how a landlord's leftover inventory turned into a pop-up, how that pop-up turned into Thistle Rose Bridal, and how eight years later she's grown from an 800-square-foot corner shop to a 2,200-square-foot store in Plainville, Massachusetts . She talks candidly about the early mistake that cost her a full dress refund, what changed in her decision-making once she had a team's paychecks to think about, and how she and her husband split parenting so neither of them is doing it alone.  This is a conversation about instinct, timing, and what it actually looks like to build something out of a bankruptcy notice and a couple of free weekends. In this episode, we cover: ✔️ How a landlord's leftover inventory turned into the start of Thistle Rose Bridal ✔️ Buying inventory directly from other bridal shops and building it through networking ✔️ The customer service mistake that taught Megan when to stop absorbing every problem herself ✔️ Growing from an 800-square-foot pop-up to a 2,200-square-foot store ✔️ How she and her husband split parenting so bridal retail doesn't take over the whole family TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Welcome to the BOSS Podcast 0:24 — Meet Megan Kelly of Thistle Rose Bridal 1:12 — Managing at Alfred Angelo and the shutdown that changed her path 3:19 — Finding the leftover dresses and calling the landlord 4:31 — Starting a pop-up: a few weekends turns into years 5:41 — Sourcing inventory directly from other bridal shops 7:50 — Deciding to go all in before COVID 8:22 — The move from Mansfield to Plainville 9:37 — Growing from 800 to 2,200 square feet 10:15 — Life on the floor: Megan's favorite role in the store 11:50 — The early mistake: refunding a dress and the lesson behind it 13:40 — Why the stakes changed once a team depended on her decisions 15:02 — Becoming a faster, sharper decision-maker 16:20 — What her Enneagram number taught her about leading 18:10 — What keeps her in bridal after eight years 20:05 — Balancing motherhood, marriage, and running a store 21:40 — Boys' Day: the Saturday tradition that makes it all work Follow Thistle Rose Bridal: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thistlerosebridal/ About the BOSS Podcast Welcome to the Bridal Owner Success Stories (BOSS)! 106 Years, 5 Owners, One Bridal Shop | Cristen Rosinski's Story

Cristen Rosinski didn't grow up wanting to own a bridal shop. She grew up working for her dad's blacksmith business, lost her job in the 2008 recession, and two months after asking a store owner for a job, she owned the store instead. Sixteen years later, Cristen owns Aliber's Bridal in Greenfield, Massachusetts, a store that's 106 years old and has passed through five owners since it opened. In this episode, she walks through what it actually took to buy a business with no bridal experience and no savings, how a privately financed deal with the previous owner worked (and what she'd tell another owner considering the same route), the building fire in 2015 that filled her store with smoke damage during buying season, and why her mother, who once sewed her wedding dress, is now her head seamstress. This conversation is a reminder that experience isn't always the thing that qualifies you. Sometimes it's the willingness to ask the question nobody else is asking. In this episode, we cover: ✔️ How Cristen went from working for her father's blacksmith business to owning one of the oldest bridal stores in the country ✔️ What it looks like to buy a business through private financing, and the risks on both sides of that deal ✔️ Surviving a building fire during peak buying season and dealing with insurance for months afterward ✔️ Why community with other bridal shop owners has kept her in the business for 16 years ✔️ What's next for Aliber's Bridal, including their upcoming Mother's Trunk Show and National Bridal Sale TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Welcome to the BOSS Podcast 0:24 — Meet Cristen Rosinski of Aliber's Bridal 1:01 — A store with 106 years of history and five owners 1:52 — Meeting a descendant of the original owning family 2:32 — Three generations of brides, one wall of signatures 4:36 — What Cristen was doing before she bought a bridal shop 5:41 — How a job search turned into a business purchase 6:20 — Buying a business with no savings: the private financing story 6:58 — Her mom joins as head seamstress 9:14 — The risk and reward of privately financed business deals 12:13 — Sixteen years of growth and a changing bridal industry 12:38 — The hardest year: a building fire and smoke damage 14:31 — Navigating insurance during a business interruption 15:50 — What keeps Cristen in the bridal business after 16 years 17:51 — Why community with other bridal owners matters 19:19 — Where to follow Cristen and Aliber's Bridal 19:52 — What's next: a Mother's Trunk Show and National Bridal Sale Follow Aliber's Bridal: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alibersbridal/ [https://www.instagram.com/alibersbridal/] Website: www.alibersbridal.com Have a question, a topic you want covered, or want to be a guest on the show?
