April Fools' Day

April Fools' Day or April Fool's Day (rarely called All Fools' Day[1] [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools%27_Day#cite_note-1]) is an annual custom in many Western countries on the 1st of April [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_1] consisting of practical jokes [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Practical_joke], hoaxes [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoax], and pranks. Jokesters often expose their actions by shouting "April Fool[s]!" at the recipient. Mass media can be involved with these pranks, which may be revealed as such the following day. The custom of setting aside a day for playing harmless pranks upon one's neighbor has been relatively common in the world historically.[2] [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools%27_Day#cite_note-harp-2]

episode Guy Fawkes artwork

Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes (/fɔːks/ [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English]; 13 April 1570 – 31 January 1606),[a] [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes#cite_note-1] also known as Guido Fawkes while fighting for the Spanish, was a member of a group of provincial English Catholics [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_in_England_and_Wales] involved in the failed Gunpowder Plot [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpowder_Plot] of 1605. He was born and educated in York [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/York]; his father died when Fawkes was eight years old, after which his mother married a recusant [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recusant] Catholic. Fawkes converted to Catholicism and left for mainland Europe, where he fought for Catholic Spain in the Eighty Years' War [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eighty_Years%27_War] against Protestant Dutch reformers [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformation] in the Low Countries [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_Countries]. He travelled to Spain to seek support for a Catholic rebellion in England without success. He later met Thomas Wintour [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_and_Thomas_Wintour], with whom he returned to England. Wintour introduced him to Robert Catesby [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Catesby], who planned to assassinate King James I [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_VI_and_I] and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. The plotters leased an undercroft [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undercroft] beneath the House of Lords [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Lords]; Fawkes was placed in charge of the gunpowder that they stockpiled there. The authorities were prompted by an anonymous letter to search Westminster Palace [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_Palace] during the early hours of 5 November, and they found Fawkes guarding the explosives. He was questioned and tortured over the next few days and confessed to wanting to blow up the House of Lords.

episode Enshit*ification artwork

Enshit*ification

Enshit*ification, also known as crapification and platform decay, is a process in which two-sided [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-sided_market] online products and services [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_economy] decline in quality over time. Initially, vendors [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendors] create high-quality offerings to attract users, then they degrade those offerings to better serve business customers, and finally degrade their services to both users and business customers to maximize short-term profits [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profit_(economics)] for shareholders [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shareholder].
