Are You Trying to Recover From Private Practice Burnout the Hard Way? If you're a private practice owner who feels exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from the business you once loved, you may be asking yourself: "How do I recover from private practice burnout?" Most people immediately look for solutions like: * Better systems * Better time management * Better productivity * Better boundaries And while those things absolutely matter, there's one burnout recovery strategy that rarely gets discussed: Having more fun. It sounds simple. Maybe even too simple. But if you've been stuck in survival mode for months—or years—this episode may completely change the way you think about burnout recovery. THE PRESENT MOMENT IS THE GATEWAY OUT OF BURNOUT One of the biggest reasons burnout becomes so difficult to escape is because we stop living in the present. We're constantly: * Thinking about tomorrow * Worrying about future problems * Replaying past mistakes * Planning ten steps ahead Our minds become trapped everywhere except where we actually are. The result? Stress. Overwhelm. Anxiety. Disconnection. Burnout. The antidote isn't always doing less. Sometimes it's becoming more present. And one of the fastest ways to access presence is through play. WHY FUN MATTERS MORE THAN MOST BUSINESS OWNERS REALIZE Many private practice owners unintentionally create a rule that sounds something like this: "I'll have fun after I finish everything." The problem? Everything never gets finished. There's always: * Another client * Another email * Another project * Another task * Another problem to solve So fun gets postponed. Again. And again. And again. Eventually, life becomes all responsibility and no enjoyment. This creates the perfect environment for burnout to thrive. THE BURNOUT CYCLE OF HIGH ACHIEVERS High-achieving entrepreneurs often believe: * More effort = more success * More work = more progress * More sacrifice = more results But over time, this mindset creates imbalance. You begin to lose touch with: * Joy * Creativity * Curiosity * Spontaneity * Playfulness And ironically, those are often the very things that fuel innovation, problem-solving, and growth. WHY PLAY UNLOCKS CREATIVITY Think back to childhood. Before responsibilities. Before deadlines. Before endless to-do lists. Children naturally: * Imagine * Explore * Create * Experiment * Play They're not worried about being productive. They're simply engaged in the experience. That's where creativity lives. And creativity is one of the most powerful resources available to business owners. Many of the solutions you're searching for won't be found by forcing more effort. They'll be discovered when you create space for them to emerge. RECONNECT WITH YOUR INNER CHILD One of the simplest ways to recover from burnout is to reconnect with activities that once brought you joy. Ask yourself: * What did I love doing as a child? * What activities made me lose track of time? * What felt exciting? * What felt effortless? Maybe it was: * Drawing * Reading * Playing sports * Being outside * Exploring nature * Creating stories * Building things The goal isn't to become a child again. The goal is to remember the parts of yourself that burnout caused you to forget. USE YOUR IMAGINATION AGAIN Many adults stop dreaming. Not because they don't want more. But because they slowly stop believing it's possible. Burnout shrinks our perspective. It narrows our focus to immediate survival. Creativity expands it again. Give yourself permission to imagine: * What would your ideal day look like? * What would your ideal business look like? * How would your life feel if it were fully aligned? Then ask yourself: "What if it were possible?" Because before anything can become reality, it first exists in imagination. RITUALIZE FUN Fun doesn't have to mean taking a two-week vacation. Often it's the small moments that create the biggest shifts. You can begin by adding enjoyment to things you're already doing. Examples: * Listening to music while completing admin tasks * Taking walking meetings * Creating rewards for completing projects * Working from a different environment * Scheduling activities you genuinely enjoy The goal isn't to avoid responsibility. It's to stop making everything feel so heavy. BALANCE IS THE REAL GOAL Burnout doesn't happen because you care too much. It happens when one area of life consumes all the others. The solution isn't abandoning your goals. It's creating balance between: * Work and play * Productivity and rest * Achievement and enjoyment * Doing and being Because sustainable success requires both. If you feel like you’ve been spinning your wheels… This episode will shift how you see everything. YOU ARE NOT STUCK — IT JUST FEELS THAT WAY Being stuck isn’t a permanent state. It’s a perception. An illusion created by: Overthinking Self-limiting beliefs Mental overload It’s like an imaginary prison your mind builds — and then convinces you is real. But here’s the truth: You have the ability to break free. WHY YOU FEEL STUCK IN THE FIRST PLACE Feeling stuck is rarely just one thing. It’s usually a combination of: Self-limiting beliefs Not slowing down to reflect Over-relying on logic instead of creativity When these stack together… You stay in a loop. Thinking Analyzing Replaying Avoiding And ultimately… Not moving forward. STEP 1: IDENTIFY AND SHIFT SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS Your beliefs come from repeated thoughts. And those thoughts become your behaviors. So if you want to get unstuck… You don’t just remove the thought. You replace it. TRY THIS: Ask yourself: 👉 What is a better-feeling thought? Then intentionally shift your thinking. Because new thoughts create new beliefs. And new beliefs create new results. STEP 2: SLOW DOWN TO SPEED UP This is one of the most overlooked — and most powerful — steps. If the idea of slowing down makes you uncomfortable… That’s exactly where you need to start. Pause. Ask yourself: What’s working? What’s not? What do I like? What do I not like? And most importantly: 👉 Why? When you keep asking “why,” you uncover deeper patterns. You may realize: You’re the bottleneck You’re misaligned You’ve outgrown certain parts of your business And that awareness? That’s where clarity begins. STEP 3: GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD AND INTO CREATIVITY When you feel stuck, you’re often overusing the “thinking” side of your brain. You’re: Overanalyzing Problem-focused Mentally exhausted At that point, logic won’t solve the problem. You need creativity. TRY THIS INSTEAD: Unplug from technology Go for a walk Journal Daydream Revisit something you loved as a child When you shift into creativity… You access new ideas, solutions, and perspectives. FROM SURVIVAL MODE TO CREATOR MODE Feeling stuck is a sign you’re in survival mode. You’re reacting instead of creating. But the moment you shift into curiosity… Everything changes. Private Practice Burnout: When It Looks Like ADHD (But Isn’t) Struggling to focus, feeling constantly overwhelmed, or wondering if you have ADHD? Private practice burnout can mimic ADHD symptoms — especially in high-achieving women — and understanding the difference can change everything. If you’ve ever felt like your brain just… stopped working… This episode is for you. WHEN BURNOUT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING ELSE There was a point in my private practice journey where I was convinced something was wrong with me. I couldn’t focus. I couldn’t finish tasks. I felt constantly overwhelmed — no matter how much I rested. I truly believed I had ADHD. So I did what many people would do… I went to get evaluated. WHAT I DISCOVERED CHANGED EVERYTHING After going through the full assessment process… I was not diagnosed with ADHD. And I was shocked. Because the symptoms I was experiencing felt very real. But the reason I wasn’t diagnosed? Those patterns weren’t present earlier in my life. Which led me to a powerful realization: 👉 A dysregulated nervous system from prolonged burnout can mimic neurodivergence HOW BURNOUT MIMICS ADHD SYMPTOMS In this episode, I break down how burnout can present in ways that look like ADHD: ✔ EXECUTIVE DYSFUNCTION Struggling with organization, focus, and completing tasks ✔ EMOTIONAL DYSREGULATION Increased irritability, anxiety, and impulsivity ✔ SENSORY OVERLOAD Heightened sensitivity to noise, light, and stimulation ✔ LOSS OF JOY Disconnection from things you once enjoyed ✔ CHRONIC FATIGUE Feeling exhausted no matter how much you rest ✔ “MASKING” BURNOUT Forcing yourself to function… until you can’t anymore WHY THIS HAPPENS When your body has been in survival mode for too long… Your nervous system becomes dysregulated. You’re constantly: On edge Overstimulated Mentally overloaded And eventually… Your system crashes. THE DEEPER ROOT CAUSE For me, the issue wasn’t just burnout. It was: My patterns My self-talk My constant overcommitment My identity tied to doing more I was stuck in a cycle of: Doing everything Burning out Feeling behind Repeating the pattern Until I finally interrupted it. FROM SURVIVAL MODE TO ALIGNMENT The shift wasn’t just rest. It was realignment. I had to: Identify the patterns Interrupt them Create new ones Through: My thoughts My standards My calendar My energy That’s when things started to change.
