Currently, Pastor Bill is leading us chapter by chapter through the Old Testament book of Second Kings. Today we begin a two-part look at chapter seventeen, so turn there if you would. As we'll soon see Israel is about to do exactly what God told them not to do. They were worshipping other gods, and this idol worship provoked the Lord to anger. Through it all God continues to warn them to turn from their ways, and come back to Him. It's been said that the greatest sin is the corruption of the highest good. The nation of Judah in the days of King Ahaz was guilty of great sin. They were God's people called to worship Him, yet they turned to idols. But before we condemn Judah of old, we must examine our hearts. We'll be given that opportunity as we explore their history on today's Hope From The Word. Instead of asking how low can we go, or how far can we stray, we should be encouraged to draw near and stay close to the Lord! There's much more to be said about this issue of why God allows evil and what his purposes are; and we will explore that issue, among other things, on today's Hope From The Word.
