Descripción

If you’re thinking about downsizing after 50, this is a real and honest look at what that transition actually looks like. Downsizing after 50 can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re trying to compare different 55+ communities and active adult communities. In this episode, I’m sharing my personal experience moving from a much larger home into a 55+ community, including what surprised me the most. After more than 20 years in real estate, I’ve seen how downsizing after 50 can lead to less maintenance, more freedom, and a completely different day-to-day lifestyle. I also talk about the emotional side of downsizing, including leaving a long-time home and sorting through years of belongings. If you’re exploring 55+ communities, 55Places connects you with a local community expert who can help you compare options, understand HOA costs, taxes, amenities, and find the right fit. It’s completely free and can make the process much easier. From Treadmill Only to Strength Training After 50

For years, I thought working out meant one thing: getting on the treadmill. After losing 120 pounds with the help of GLP-1 medications, I realized my body needed more than cardio. As I got older and learned more about the importance of maintaining muscle, strength training, flexibility, mobility, and balance became much bigger priorities. In this episode, I’m sharing how I started working out, how I became more comfortable in the gym, and what my fitness routine looks like today. I talk about starting with basic gym machines, building an upper body and lower body plan, increasing weights over time, and slowly getting brave enough to try new things. I also share how I started taking fitness classes, why I contacted instructors ahead of time, how I began in the back of the room, and how I eventually became confident enough to move toward the front. This episode is for anyone who feels intimidated by the gym, unsure where to start, or like they are starting over with fitness later in life. I’m not a fitness expert — I’m just sharing what has helped me build strength, confidence, and a routine that works for my life now. Disclaimer: This episode is based on my personal experience and is not medical or fitness advice. Please check with your doctor or a qualified professional before starting a new workout routine.
