Ambition builds a confidence that relies entirely on whatever that ambition is striving for. But if those things are taken away, where is your confidence then? Our confidence is in Christ. Ambition is an action seen everywhere—whether it is the pursuit of money, fame, or glory. It is often considered the key ingredient to reaching one’s goals. But that is the world’s standard, right? What happens when a follower of Christ introduces ambition into their mission for God? Unavoidably, human ambition leads us to turn our backs on God. In Scripture, whenever personal ambition was mixed with God’s mission, destruction and failure followed. God’s mission is for His glory; our mission is to be vessels for Him. When we look at nature, we see that even animals have an instinct to wash and be clean. However, they can only stay clean if a source of purification is provided—which, in their case, is water.
