Descripción

As part of our new Advanced Critical Care pathway we are running for the first time, we have created this podcast hosted by our very own and trusted Sarah Jones (Lead for Clinical Pharmacy Advanced Practice) that brings together Nic Corkhill - Consultant credentialed pharmacist and Pharmacist Team Lead Perioperative & Critical Care and Cardiothoracic Services at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - and Amy Wieckowski - Lead for Critical Care and Theatres at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital. The podcast is unapologetically longer than the others we've published so far as there is so much great content and, for the often grey areas of critical care practice, it is probably helpful to dive into the detail of all things intensive... So, if you are a pharmacist or other healthcare professional practicing in the field of critical care, or you want to refresh or dip your toe into a the soapy suds of critical care, then this is the podcast for you. Such a pleasure to hear this discussion by masters of their art.

Global health and pharmacy: Talking to Prof. Tina Brock

Prof Tina Brock is the Director of the Collaborative Practice Centre Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, and a mentor of many. Tina talks candidly about her role in global health spanning all 6 WHO regions with particular reference to strengthening health systems and human resources as a key component of that. Tina explains her role at the Collaborative Practice Centre in reducing silo’s in healthcare education and practice (take note of the silo-based pun which I was particularly impressed with!). We also venture into the importance of planetary health, and the use of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) as a mechanism of ensuring global harmonisation of global health practice in pharmacy (David Steeb’s reference below). Finally, a special mention and personal acknowledgement of the podcast art by the philanthropic Ollie Brock…. We cover a lot – come and listen! This episode is part of the Global Health in Pharmacy short course if you want to learn more.  Entrustable Professional Activities: https://journals.lww.com/academicmedicine/fulltext/2021/03000/entrustable_professional_activities__epas__for.33.aspx [https://journals.lww.com/academicmedicine/fulltext/2021/03000/entrustable_professional_activities__epas__for.33.aspx]

Pilot Episode: Pharmacists in the media

Isn't it always the way? You hear a word for the first time in your life and then start hearing it everywhere! So it has been journeying with the topic of this pilot episode - pharmacists in the media - all the often embarrassing and sometimes cringeworthy examples of how pharmacists have been portrayed come creeping out of the woodwork! And since we recorded this in December 2025 further examples have revealed themselves including through an article recently published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association and authored by Alexander Kim and colleagues* who concluded that "pharmacists have continued to be negatively portrayed in film and TV media over the past ten years". Fair enough! We would have included reference to this, obviously, but, sadly, I still haven't mastered the manipulation of time... Anyway, welcome to the Pharmacy in the Bathtub podcast, produced by the postgraduate clinical pharmacy team at the University of Bath! We hope you enjoy this enthusiastic foray into the world of podcasting which we hope to continue with more academic and clinical topics in future. Honest! Artwork credit goes to the brilliant, multitalented and multifaceted genius Ollie Brock who can only be described as a tremendous fellow! We acknowledge and appreciate the help of Sacha (AV team, Univ. Bath) who patiently tutored us through the recording and edits of the podcast. *Pharmacist Portrayals in Film and Television Media Between 2013 and 2023 - ScienceDirect [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1544319125000834#:~:text=Conclusion,negative%20public%20perceptions%20of%20pharmacists.]
