Descripción

In this conversation with Kim Steiner and Amy Krause of Fource Recruiting, I wanted to pull back the curtain on what the hiring process actually looks like from the recruiter’s side, especially for Gen Z candidates and the parents trying to help them. What came through clearly is that getting hired is not just about having a degree or a polished resume. It is about preparation, communication, self-awareness, and understanding what employers are really responding to when they sit across from a candidate. One of the most important ideas threaded through this episode is the difference between the manager model and the developing model that David Yeager writes about. The manager model is focused on immediate performance, compliance, and getting someone to do the job right now. The developing model is different — it is about helping a person grow, build confidence, and become more capable over time. That shift matters because it changes how leaders, parents, and employers think about young people entering the workforce. Instead of asking only, “How do I get this person to perform?”, the developing model asks, “How do I help this person get better?”Kim and Amy brought the kind of insight that only comes from being in the room every day. They talked honestly about the disconnect between what young people think will get them hired and what actually moves a resume to the top of the pile. They also spoke to the importance of fundamentals: showing up prepared, being genuine, asking thoughtful questions, and presenting yourself as someone ready to contribute, not just someone hoping to be chosen. We also talked about the changing expectations around work, the pressure parents feel when helping their children choose majors and career paths, and the reality that careers are becoming less linear. In the end, this episode is really about helping families and young adults better understand the gap between assumption and reality — and what it takes to move through that gap with more confidence, more growth, and less confusion.FOR MORE: FourceRecruiting.compivotpointnikmichael.comnikmichael.substack.com

Erin Treacy - Gen Z Pivot Point

In this episode of Pivot Point: Strategy for Change,Nik Michael welcomes executive coach, leadership consultant, and organizational strategist Erin Treacy for a thoughtful exploration of one of the most important challenges facing families, employers, and young adults today: thegrowing gap between preparation and reality as Gen Z transitions into adulthood and the workforce. As part of the Gen Z Launch Gap series, thisconversation moves beyond stereotypes and headlines to examine what is really happening beneath the surface. Why do so many employers describe Gen Z as difficult to manage? Why do young adults often feel misunderstood by the very systems designed to help them succeed? And what role do parents play when thepath from education to employment no longer follows the roadmap previous generations expected? Drawing from her experience as an executive coach workingwith organizations and leaders, as well as her perspective as the parent of Gen Z young adults, Erin offers a rare ability to translate between generations. Together, she and Nik explore the changing definition of success, the tension between ambition and well-being, workplace flexibility, communication breakdowns, career identity, and the lessons younger generations have learned from watching previous generations navigate work, burnout, and achievement. Rather than assigning blame, this conversation focuses onunderstanding. It challenges employers to become more curious, encourages young adults to communicate more effectively, and invites parents to reconsider long-held assumptions about what a successful launch into adulthood should look like. Whether you're a parent wondering how to support your childwithout enabling them, a young adult searching for direction in an uncertain world, or a leader trying to build stronger relationships with the next generation of talent, this episode offers practical insights and a refreshing perspective on one of the most significant cultural transitions of our time. Because perhaps the real question isn't whether Gen Z needsto change. Perhaps the question is what all of us can learn from one another as the future of work, adulthood, and success continues to evolve.

Kim Costa: The Beautiful Life That No Longer Fit

Kim Costa built a life that looked exactly right — and then had to admit it wasn't hers. In this episode, she shares how a quiet internal discomfort, ignored for years, became the signal that changed everything. Kim is the creator of the Wheelhouse Method, an author, speaker, and top-performing realtor serving North America. Her framework treats your life like a house: four foundational pillars, eight areas of alignment, and the honest question of whether the space you're living in — literally and figuratively — still fits who you are. We talk about twenty-seven years in a career she was competent at but never built for. A broken back that forced her still long enough to start writing again. A decision to walk away from an Oprah opportunity because she couldn't stand in front of an audience and claim a life she hadn't actually chosen. And the fifteen years of real, unglamorous, one-step-at-a-time movement it took to get to the other side. What surprised her most after the pivot wasn't income or recognition. It was joy. Not the performed kind — the accessed kind. The feeling of doing work that draws on what you actually are. If there's a flat tire you've been driving on, this conversation is worth your time.
