Acerca de Rootwords By Revolve Learning
Planting seeds for the future one word at a time...We briefly unpack one word, tell stories, share some insight, and just reflect on how we can use and teach that word for it to be a vehicle of inspiration in the lives of those that look up to us; our students, our sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, neighbors…you name it. One person can change the entire life and mindset of a child regardless of their environment. Be that strong oak, a trusting dependable place for a child to just be a child but also learn about the enormous potential they each possess for the future.

We still need kids to want to be teachers when they grow up. That doesn’t happen without engaging inspiration. Are your students stuck in a rut? Do they seem to lack the motivation to learn new things? If so, it might be time to encourage them to explore more adventurous learning opportunities. What if we created immersive experiences for students where they not only saw themselves but they saw possibilities. In this episode, we not only talk about exciting adventures but also how to infuse that learning into the classroom in ways that keep kids coming back for more. That's the goal... to have learning be so engaging kids just can get enough. What would that take from us as educators and parents? Do you remember the last time you were truly free? Not held back by anyone or anything, just living in the moment and enjoying life for what it is? For most people, this doesn't happen very often. We are constantly told what to do, how to do it, and when. This type of lifestyle can be stifling for some people, but there is a way to break free from these chains. Being a free spirit means living life authentically and with purpose. It means being true to yourself no matter what anyone else thinks. And as educators, we have the unique opportunity to show our students what this looks like. In this episode, we talk about how we can do this by being passionate about our work, living our best lives, and treating others with respect. When we model this behavior for our students, they will be more likely to do the same! Having power is one thing; using it well and for the good of others is an entirely different thing. Knowing when to wield some power could be the most powerful thing that someone can do. To responsibly be powerful, you have to consider the outcomes... Who is at the other end of the power that you wield? This means you give over that power frequently to give the practice and pathways for students to figure that out...even in the youngest of grades. If students leave your classrooms only knowing your thoughts, that doesn't prepare them for when they have to use their own. When it comes to your students in that year, you have them, how effective you are as a leader, the opportunities you create and curate for your students directly impact their ability, the trust between you, and their evolution of skills and mindsets. In this episode, we are talking about what it means to be a powerful educator that is truly aligned with the empowering of others as the end goal. When we empower all the parts of us, even those that are self-proclaimed imperfect, that effort has the power to affect how we see the world, the environments, and the relationships all around us. There is a deep level of reflection that has to take place and continue to take place to be accepting of yourself, your process, and your journey. Authenticity and imperfection go hand and hand. You will notice that our episodes this season intentionally build on each other. My hope is that every educator has the opportunity to feel safe enough to be an imperfect, growing, teacher that STILL strives for greatness and excellence. In this episode, I talk all about a sudden realization I had about the expectation of perfection placed on students when I woke up on the wrong side of the bed... Let me explain! There is a lot is leading up to someone being comfortable enough to be their authentic self and feeling safe enough in the spaces you curate for them to continue doing so day in and day out. We want kids to feel like despite challenges or anything that may come their way while they're in those spaces, you know for sure that you are showing up as you are, and so are they. > It is the season to have all of who one is on display. It is a time to be all the beautiful things that one is at once. It is a time to be loud and thoughtful, and angry and loving and ratchet and academic, with fire in the belly and a desire to push the world to reimagine how they see us and others like us. -Dr. Chris Emdin, Ratchetdemic If that does not light you up or the concept of just being your authentic self, no matter what, I don't know what will truly; I was lit on fire by that quote. It just made me think that so much has changed and that today's sense of identity is not yesterday's sense of identity. Things have changed. Things are shifting. Kids are more encouraged to be empowered, which is different from what many of us experienced growing up. In this episode, we dive into the nitty-gritty of the nuances of being one's authentic self in the classroom and beyond.
