Descripción

Heather Vinge Hanson is a MN trail runner, and in 2025 Heather ran several marathon or longer distances, including her first 50K race. She does all that, while dealing with a multitude of chronic conditions and syndromes.  Everything from gastro-intestinal disorders, to Ehlers Danlos to Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia , and that is after battling an eating disorder for many years.  This is someone who has been in the fire, and she is not just surviving, but flourishing through it.  It no surprise that TerraLoco, the great footwear and sporting store in Rochester, MN, began sponsoring her as an athlete last year.  In this conversation, we go through her history of discovering and dealing with her many chronic conditions, her love of trail running and her current achievements and futuregoals. And stayed tuned after the episode for another edition of Running Out Loud, where I feature another Joe Hardin piece called The Miles Provide.   So, strap in and lace up for a nice long run today, and don’t forget your ‘power object’, be it guitar or vest, but let’s get going, it’s time to hit the trail. Crew Access Vol 6 : Storm The Park Edition

Today is another Crew Access episode with Mario and Erik, and this is a special one.  This is Crew access, Storm The Park edition.  The three of us headed down to White Water state park and did the 15K at Storm Sporting Events Storm The Park trail race.  We weren’t there to worry about pace or effort, just to hang out with friends, explore the trails at a beautiful place and enjoy the day and great event put on by Mandy and Bill Hansel.  We recorded this the next day and talk through our favorite parts of the event, our challenges and how I nearly broke my ankle and fell off the cliff just by stepping aside for some two-way traffic.  And I even include a mini interview I recorded that day with the race director Mandy Hansel.  So strap up those Mount To coast H1's, grab your gloves if it colder than 40, and don’t forget your bottle or flask (Erik), but it’s time to hit the trail. Erin Shaw : Planning, Persevering & The Capes of Wrath

Erin Shaw, by her own admission, is not fast.  She has come in last more than once, she has been cutoff more than once, she has just made the cutoff with 8 minutes to spare, more than once, but Erin gets it done and she savors the moments along the way.  Whether it’s taking on multiple-day trail races in rugged backcountry areas like the Scottish highlands, or battling cancer and coming out the other side with a new perspective and priority on life,  my guest today has learned that “the only way IS through” and that nearly anything can be accomplished with planning, and persevering.  In this conversation, we learn how she discovered trail running and adventures like Cape Wrath, how she navigated a breast cancer diagnosis, and how she has learned that she is capable of more than she knows and that she can help others to realize that as well.  And stayed tuned after the conversation for another installment of Running Out Loud, where I share a piece by Nikita Gill called “The Ocean In You”.  Get shoes on, grab your sun sleeves and head out for a nice long training run, cuz it’s time to hit the trail. Kevin Swift : Swifty Runs The 50, YouTube & Backyard Ultra 101

Anyone remember the old days when you had to go to the library, to find the information you needed?  These days, a simple Google search or a look on YouTube and you can usually find it.  I began posting videos on YouTube as a reference for folks to see trail races, courses, areas and experiences, and to show my family and friends what I was up to.  Well, so did my guest today, Kevin Swift. Kevin, aka SWIFTY, did not come to running until a little bit later in life, but once he did, he was hooked.  The races became longer and the adventures became more involved.  Eventually he found himself on a quest to run races in all 50 states, and with a YouTube channel to boot.  We go through all of that, discuss his drumming in bands and rock & roll dreams, and top it off with a backyard ultra 101 session, where we are joined by Mario and Erik to answer all of his questions.  So, grab those brooks, some sunscreen, and your camera (or drum sticks), cuz it’s time to hit the trail. Dylan Harris & Drew B Darby: “The Cutoff” A Film For The Rest Of Us

I am not quite sure why they agreed to be on my humble little podcast, but I'll take it. Today, I am honored to be joined by Dylan Harris and Drew B Darby.  Dylan is a well-known filmmaker, and the creator/director of the feature film, The Chase, that covered the 2024 men's race at the  Cocodona 250.  Drew, also has quite the resume, with clients that include household names like Sally McRae and Heather Jackson.  In 2024, Dylan recruited Drew to collaborate and help him on The Chase, and in 2025, they teamed up again at Cocodona to create another masterpiece.  The film is called “The Cutoff”, and for all of us ‘normal’ folks, who constantly find ourselves at the wrong end of the timing clock, this is the film for us.  The film tells the stories that don’t usually get told and does it with a level of production that is rarely seen. What you end up with is an amazing piece of cinema, and might just be the most unique take in this genre since “Unbreakable”.  Or maybe I’m just super biased…but I promise you, the film is fantastic, and so is this conversation.  So, get your shoes on for your long run, and heck, bring your Sachtler tripod with too, if you need it, but it’s time to hit the trail.
