Descripción

Nick Capper grew up on a farm on the border of NSW and QLD. When his parents warned him about peer pressure as a kid he never thought he’d give in to it, but now at 40 he’s realising just how impressionable he is. Nick is one of the most unique and memorable stand up comics in Australia, but not only is he full of hilariously comic absurdities, he has also lived a life! From going to boarding school in Tamworth, to couch surfing around South America, to fighting off cancer in his late 30s, Capper has been right through it, and his attitude to alcohol and drinking has evolved too. The drink this week was the V.No White Wine by Patriti Winemakers. Ep 11 - Lucy Bloom Crashed Her Motorbike and Spent A Year in Hospital

Lucy Bloom is a published author and international keynote speaker who lives in Sydney. When she was 18 she had a massive motorcycle accident on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and spent a year in hospital, and it forced her to grow up fast. While all her friends were out partying, she was starting her own advertising agency, and marrying a man from the nightclub she worked at. She’s recently given up drinking for the third time, and we spoke about Holly Whittaker’s book ‘Quit Like A Woman’ that has helped her think about her choice in terms that feel more related to her. Lucy is super funny, and one of the smartest people I know. Enjoy! The drink this week was the Sansgria by Altina Drinks. Ep 10 - Jason Mack Interviewed One of the Guys From Slipknot!

Jason Mack is a podcaster and music promoter based in Melbourne. His podcast ‘What We Did On The Weekend’ with Mathew Burgess has grown in the last few years to be one of the focal points of the Australian heavy music scene. In 2021 after some heavy drinking during lockdown and a scary moment k-holing live on Twitch, he decided to cut out alcohol for good. We sat down in his apartment in Brunswick to talk about that decision, as well as his life growing up in Frankston, and leaving it all behind to move to Melbourne at 30. This was one of my favourite conversations so far, even just for the goss about The Tote. Enjoy! The drink this week was the Galactic Milk Stout by Big Drop Brewing Co. Ep 9 - Michael Shafar is Jewish (and he’s ready to talk about it!)

Michael Shafar is a stand up comedian from Melbourne, currently based in London. We’ve known each other and been friends for years, but I still didn’t really know that much about Shaf’s family life other than the fact that he’s Jewish. In this wonderful conversation he told me some stories about his grandparents surviving Nazi death camps in WWII, and explained various elements of Jewish culture and community to me. I’ve been thinking a lot about the way that I used to use drinking to deal with difficult moments/feelings in life, and how that is definitely something I learned from the wider culture I was raised in. The Jewish culture that Shafar is a part of doesn’t quite see alcohol in the same way, and we spoke about how different cultures have different responses to life’s hardships, and where that might come from. Super interesting chats with an incredibly smart and funny man who I’m glad to call a friend. Enjoy! The drink this week was the TINA 1.0 by TINA Drinks. Ep 8 - Prue Blake is Completely Well-Adjusted and Normal

Prue Blake is a stand up comedian based in Melbourne, she toured her first hour ‘Unfriended’ to Australian festivals this year and has always been so funny on stage as well as off. Prue always seems to have a great bit of gossip ready to go, and when we sat down during her Melbourne Comedy Festival run she ran me through the central story of her show which was one of the juiciest bits of gossip I’ve ever heard. We talked about growing up in Brisbane, moving to Melbourne, and discovered what seems to be an incredibly healthy relationship with drinking! We also talked about town planning for five minutes which I honestly loved. Enjoy! The drink this week was the Alcohol Free Spritz by Yes You Can.
