Descripción

Today's episode begins with another memory of my dear friend, Rebecca, and the incredible role she played in my life. When I unexpectedly found myself stepping into the role of Managing Editor at a newspaper, I quickly realized I knew the production side of the business—but journalism itself was a whole different world! Thankfully, Rebecca was only a phone call away. She patiently walked me through everything I needed to survive that first week, proving once again that the people who believe in us can change the course of our lives. Then we trade newspaper deadlines for country roads. I share the story of a much-needed day spent exploring Ohio with my best friend. From visiting Grandpa's Cheese Barn to stopping at an Amish nonprofit grocery store that supports women choosing a different path in life, to wandering back roads in search of roadside produce stands, it was one of those simple, unhurried days that reminds you how refreshing it is to slow down. Sometimes the best adventures aren't planned. They're found somewhere between good conversation, winding roads, and making memories with the people who make life better. I hope you'll come along for the ride.

Day 20: You Don't Realize How Heavy It Is Until You Put It Down

One year after closing my business, I finally realized just how much weight I'd been carrying. Today's episode begins with another beautiful letter from Rebecca's "Love Letter Project"—this one written to her father during his recovery from heart surgery. It's a heartfelt reminder of how love is often found in ordinary moments and lifelong memories. From there, I reflect on something very personal. Yesterday marked one year since I publicly announced the closing of The Dough Hook Meat Market. Looking back over the past 365 days, I realized just how much has changed—not only in my life, but in me. Sometimes we carry burdens for so long that they begin to feel normal. We don't realize how heavy they are until we finally set them down. In this episode, I share what I've learned about letting go, finding peace, strengthening my faith, spending time with family, and discovering that some endings quietly make room for a better beginning. If you've ever walked away from something you poured your heart into, I hope this conversation reminds you that healing often comes one day—and one decision—at a time. ♥️

Day 19: The Beginning of Something Beautiful | A Love Letter From the past

Today's episode is a little different...and very close to my heart. Several years ago, my dear friend Rebecca began a simple but extraordinary project: she spent the entire month of February writing daily love letters to people who had impacted her life. Those posts became a beautiful reminder of the power of gratitude, encouragement, and speaking kindness out loud. When Rebecca generously chose to sponsor this podcast, I knew I wanted to honor her in a meaningful way. So today begins a brand-new series. For the next 28 episodes, I'll be revisiting Rebecca's original February Love Letters—sharing them with you one by one and reflecting on the incredible impact they've had on my own life. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness become the memories we carry forever. If today's episode encourages you, consider writing a letter, sending a text, or simply telling someone how much they mean to you. You never know how much those words might matter. Thank you for listening, and thank you, Rebecca, for reminding us that love is something worth sharing every single day.

Day 18: Why Is Mental Health So Hard to Talk About?

There are some conversations that don't come naturally. Today's episode is one of them. Mental health isn't something I've ever felt completely comfortable talking about—not because it isn't important, but because I've always worried about saying the wrong thing. Instead of waiting until I had all the answers, I decided to simply be honest. In this episode, I share why these conversations can feel so difficult, how they've changed over the years, and why sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is simply check in on someone we care about. I'm still learning how to talk about mental health...and maybe that's exactly where the conversation begins. If today's episode encourages you to reach out to one person, ask one sincere question, or remind someone they aren't alone, then these ten unedited minutes were worth it. Thank you for spending a few minutes with me today.

Day 16: A Hospital Stay, A Grateful Heart, Home Again

Some moments stay with you forever, and this episode begins with one of them. I'm sharing a memory of my dear friend Rebecca taking me to the home where she grew up and introducing me to her parents. It was such a simple afternoon, but one I'll always treasure because she invited me into a very special part of her story. Then we catch up on where I've disappeared to for the last few days. I've been spending my time at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with my pregnant daughter after a frightening hospital stay. While the doctors still don't have all the answers about what caused her bleeding, they were able to rule out the most serious possibilities, and for that, our family is incredibly grateful. I also wanted to take a few minutes to recognize the amazing physicians, nurses, and staff at OSU Wexner. Their compassion, professionalism, and exceptional care turned a very scary experience into one where we felt informed, supported, and genuinely cared for every step of the way. Now that we're finally home, it's time to dust off the to-do list that's been patiently waiting for three days and get life moving again. Sometimes life puts everything on pause, and all you can do is be present, trust the people caring for the ones you love, and count your blessings. I hope you'll join me for another unedited ten minutes of life, gratitude, and whatever happens to be on my mind today.
