POWER PLAYS EPISODES 4 AND 5 BY KARIM ZIDAN AND ELIE BLEIER: Reviewed!  Week 2 of the world cup! And we’ve got another heat wave to endure. But nothing hotter than a fresh episode of the Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour! We end (perhaps?) our two-week long series on FOOTBALL (hahahahah sorry) by taking the ball up the pitch and … metaphor metaphor, something something, last week we did the Nike ads and this week we’re doing two episodes from a five-episode podcast series, what more do you want from me!? All the magical metaphors as per? Lads. Lasses. There is a heatwave on, okay? It’s not a joke. It’s funny but it’s not a joke. Christopher, you were sick of the weather as an object of smalltalk? Well here you go mate, it’s not small anymore, it’s the number 1 item on the NEWS! But hey, the morning newspapers are old by the time you’re commuting home from work. Could never be us. We mix the contemporary (how did that not fit into the title!?) with the timeless, the rough with the smooth, the maximalist with the minimalist, the … Christopher with the Jeffrey, you could say. And so this week a serious discussion had to be had, truth be told. Can you ever separate the art from the artist? Well if it’s as tricky as it is to separate the Christopher from the Jeffrey then good luck with that!  Episode 4 of Power Plays is entitled “The Story of Qatar's World Cup Whistleblower”: https://www.sportspolitika.news/p/qatar-world-cup-abdullah-ibhais-sports-politics-football-migrants Episode 5 of Power Plays is entitled “The Power of Football”: https://www.sportspolitika.news/p/fifa-world-cup-sports-politics-power-saudi-morocco-trump-infantino Here is Maher Mezahi talking to Tim Vickery and Dotun Adebayo of the Brazilian Shirt Name Podcast (formerly the world football phone in on the BBC) about Egypt’s playing identity. Allow me to do so again here, in full: “There’s always a healthy flow of migrant workers that will come to the US that will work for pennies on the fucking dollar to make ends meat to work in slave-like conditions because they’re desperate. Why are they desperate? Because we’ve destroyed their countries. We’ve manipulated their finances, destroyed their economy, extracted their natural resources. We’ve kept them down and underdeveloped by design to create this chaos and then they’re desperate enough to come here and we don’t allow them to get the proper paperwork so our capital owners can justify paying them nothing” SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9z6yq4 ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. S00E23 ALBUMS ONLY CLUB Plan 75 By The Orchestra (For Now)

PLAN 75 BY THE ORCHESTRA (FOR NOW): Reviewed!  We swing back from our regularly scheduled programme to as special a special as we’ve done for a while. Why so special? Oh I don’t know. Let’s just say, this one will live long in the memory in terms of its placement on the calendar. Between the 25th of June and the 2nd of July, the podcast has been enjoying the summer. And we shall leave it at that.   It’s Thursday and you know what that means. But there is also a very specific and intricate mathematical formula for you to know that it means it’s a special episode rather than a regular one. Because so far it’s more often than quarterly and less often than monthly, and so it almost might seem like these pop up in your feed at random! But no. Trust us. There is both a rhyme and a reason to it. And the best bit is it’s not determined by an algorithm of any kind. It’s pure, unadulterated, intuitive and organic … vibes.  This week the podcast is reviewing the first EP by a new band called The Orchestra (For Now). Albums Only Club (we see you Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and we’re coming for your acronym!) is back for it’s third edition. Strap in music lovers because sometimes … you even get a break from the yapping and get to just listen to the music! Or … even during those moments, one of us is singing along to the music and making an ass of themselves. Something.  This is the original article from the CCCAH-approved publication DIY magazine (a magazine that, if you subscribed to it, would basically be providing you with clues and/or spoilers as to Christopher’s Albums Only Club pitches hehe) that got Christopher interested in the band: https://diymag.com/interview/the-orchestra-for-now-plan-76-november-2025 And this is the band’s first interview with DIY: https://diymag.com/interview/get-to-know-the-orchestra-for-now Hope of The States were referenced on this episode, so you might as well check out our Hope of The States special! Christopher found The Orchestra (For Now) to be a mix of them and Two Gallants: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/s04e19-hey-hey-hey/id1663210349?i=1000680099449   Two Gallants! Where are you!? RIP THE SCRIPT | NIKE FOOTBALL: Reviewed! As Karl Marx said: “podcasts are the opium of the masses”! So I hope you’re ready for your fix today, ladies and germs! Welcome to yet another episode of the Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour and that’s right, your boys are finally world cup boys once more! It’s been a long time coming. Our podcast kind of started after one of those pesky old world cup tournaments. And then we lived through a Euros, shout out. One game even got reviewed on the podcast because of course it did.  And now here we are. On the precipice of all the glory and/or tragedy. Which do you prefer listener? I think one doesn’t taste quite the same without the other, to be honest with you. But hey. What do I know? I’m just a guy. A guy who will never and has never used AI to write these shownotes. What the fuck do you take me for? I will bash these show notes out with a chisel until the day of our final episode. I’ll tell you when I’ll give up my battle against AI. When it’s AI England vs AI Croatia in the group stages. Until then, you and your mate Claude and GPT and Perplexity can all fuck off and let me live! Humanity will survive you! And the beautiful game will survive the awful politics! Separate the art and the artist! Wait this might be more material linked to next week’s episode, hold that thought! Hehehe …  So anyway. Today’s episode. Rather than a 6 minute reaction video reacting to a 6 minute ad (classic YouTube), we have an HOUR AND SIX MINUTE AUDIO PODCAST reacting to a 6 minute ad (classic CCCAH!)  And on today’s episode, if you want to have it explained why old videos look really bad in new videos and why that doesn’t necessarily mean they looked that bad originally … then look no further, this will be the podcast for you. If you want to know what the notable reaction to Harry Maguire not being included in the squad was, then this is the podcast for you. If you want to know if Bruno and Roy Keane made up … well, this isn’t the podcast for you and neither is The Overlap! Lol.  Also we should have been more confident when we were um RECALLING the previous night’s England game score haha. We’ll take it!  Watch the 2026 World Cup Nike Ad entitled Rip The Script here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyZ1WIua_1s Watch the compilation video entitled “FIFA World Cup - Evolution (1998-2022)” uploaded by YouTube user Gunspell_football here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEXGnYDkVQk&t=343s Keep track of all the names in the ad via Yahoo Sports: https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/inside-nikes-world-cup-commercial-heres-every-celebrity-cameo-in-viral-ad-with-kim-kardashian-more-171409534.html Read this Athletic article covering the Nike ad by Eduardo Tansley: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7335278/2026/06/05/nike-2026-world-cup-advert/ Read this article about Nike’s biggest soccer push in years here: https://boardroom.tv/helena-thornton-nike-making-rip-the-script-world-cup-commercial/ We will include no links that clear up the Jamie/Louise situation but here is a very important clarification re: Phil Neville and coffee: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/phil-neville-made-first-cup-4912739 Check out our website: cccappraisalhour.show Check out our e-mail: cccappraisalhour@gmail.com Check out our Twitter: twitter.com/cccappraisalpod Check out our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cccappraisalhour Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cccahour Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When I was struggling for the name of the lower part of the ship and Christopher suggested “hull”. Thank you Christopher. I don’t know what I’d do without you.   SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/power-plays/id1896697557 ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. GUY MONTGOMERY’S GUY MONT SPELLING BEE SEASON 2 EPISODE 6: Reviewed!  Today we are really CCCAHing it up! We’re reviewing another fun game show. And that is fun because, when you really think about it … we’re a fun game show also! I mean, the fun part is arguable, but in theory, that’s what we do here on the programme. So it’s like mirror images. Maybe the fourth season of the Spelling Bee will feature a round spelling all the things we’ve reviewed on the Triple C Appraisal Hour. That remains to be seen. But Guy Montgomery seems like such a lovely bloke so I’m going to go ahead and say it’s probably a dead cert to happen.  Consider this a run out of our future Patreon today as on this episode we will basically be doing a full on GIFT episode for two of our most loyal listeners, Jonny and Nayyar. Gosh what beautiful souls our most loyal listeners are. All BOTH of them! <3 <3 <3  They brought this show up to me. I asked them for a specific episode. They gave me two. I had flashbacks to the Star Trek double-episode-pitch debacle and started pulling my hair out. I locked in and went with the first episode they suggested. And here we are reviewing it. Now to work through the main issue with guest pitches and/or listener pitches … WHAT IF WE HATE IT AND ALIENATE OUR GUESTS AND LISTENERS!? Well there’s only one way to find out … oh and I guess we could just lie to spare feelings? Hmm.  NAH! That’s not the CCCAH! Let’s get into EXACTLY HOW WE FEEL ABOUT THIS SHIT EVEN IF IT’S KIND OF WEIRD. Now that my friends, that right there is the CCCAH. Please. Be inspired to own how you feel about shit even if it’s kind of weird also. See you in World Cup land gang!  Watch the episode (Season 2 Episode 6) of Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee we reviewed on today’s show here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE9rpWDLgZQ Watch the first season of the show on iPlayer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m002qrhw/guy-montgomerys-guy-montspelling-bee-australia Watch Paul McCartney talk to Amelia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0aq8OB-zwo&t=4s Watch Paul McCartney talk to Zane Lowe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-SY9ZKM5mw Watch Paul McCartney talk to Radio 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5RN2m1e4y4 Listen to Paul McCartney’s new album here: https://open.spotify.com/album/34Sh6TOqfsrPSeXPBRGRAM?si=mboq7j5pRTi5R5xXf1sCqw Watch the first episode of Third Man Release Lab (shout out Jack White!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2lnosRCL80 Watch the second episode of Third Man Release Lab (during which we find out Jack White will release his seventh solo album next month!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYiyRiePwag&t=13s Check out our website: cccappraisalhour.show Check out our e-mail: cccappraisalhour@gmail.com Check out our Twitter: twitter.com/cccappraisalpod Check out our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cccappraisalhour Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cccahour Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When I fucked up the spelling of pronunciation (and the pronunciation, potentially?! Crying) I feel like this humanised my awesome-at-spelling ass in the eyes and ears of our loyal listeners and secret future Patreon and Discord fanboys and fangirls. Wait but that was the second one I got wrong?! Ok nah fuck that, too far Christopher! Too. Far.  SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyZ1WIua_1s ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. S07E09 Can you imagine more of a gut punch as a ramen dad?

THE RAMEN GIRL: Reviewed!  Roll up, roll up. To the Ramen girl initiated and the about-to-be-Ramen-girl-initiated! It’s your favourite podcast about someone who wins the review game and your favourite sport about two people who share cultural interests.  All the “it’s Thursday you know what that means” vibes you can shake a stick at on today’s episode, on this, the 4th of the 6th month of the year. And if you too are wondering how we already in the 6th month of the year then all I can say is … you need to take a good look over your balcony at the glowing ramen house over yonder and see if it elicits any feelings in you. Either you’re hungry or you’re inspired to finally find your passion in this life!  I can’t believe it took me 37 years and a few months to find out about this film existing at all. And a few more days than that to finally join the most exclusive of clubs: the club of people who have watched The Ramen Girl. Honestly, I’m going to find it hard to bounce back and talk about other things after this week. But I will do my best. For now. I’m so excited for you to join us, whether it’s in a preview-the-film-for-me capacity, review-the-film-for-me capacity or in a (my personal favourite) cheeky little bit of Gogglebox style watch-it-for-me capacity.   You can watch the film (it's called The Ramen Girl) with the correct subtitles here (but you still need to select captions on!) Honestly, I wish you all the best of luck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RLoaO4R5cI You can watch this film (The Ramen Girl) without subtitles (I don’t know why you would but hey, maybe you just want to see what we watched the first ten minutes of before we got confused): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiHsGZCzUHQ An article lambasting The Ramen Girl in the context of it being a movie about food: https://www.pastemagazine.com/food/when-food-movies-suck-the-ramen-girl A more recent article (only six years old!) catching you up on the now (arguable) cult status and pros and cons of The Ramen Girl: https://oishii-desu.com/2020/09/09/ramen-girl-movie-review/ Check out our website: cccappraisalhour.show Check out our e-mail: cccappraisalhour@gmail.com Check out our Twitter: twitter.com/cccappraisalpod Check out our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cccappraisalhour Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cccahour Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher finally realised, after a whole episode of gaslighting me for watching the wrong cut … that yes, the run time is the same whether on Amazon Prime or YouTube! An hour and thirty eight minutes. There is no 2 hour Director’s Cut version of this film. At least not one available on God’s world wide web.  SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE9rpWDLgZQ ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
