A conversation with Becca Mann, an open water swimmer and writer. She's an 8x USA Swim National Team member and 2x USA National Champion. She's the first and only swimmer to complete the Triple Maui Nui Channel Swim, a 40 mile channel crossing from Mauito Molokai to Lanai back to Maui. She's the author of the Book Outside the Lanes A Pro Swimmer's Story of Resilience, Reinvention, and Redefining Success. We have a conversation about her life as documented in her book Outside the Lanes, her swim successes including doing her first open water swim at the age of 10, swimming for national teams, and open water swimming. We talk about what she is up to now, her interests in writing and show business and her goals as she is getting back into swimming.  Becca also gives some of her swim advice to developing swimmers and triathletes. A conversation with Edzard Ernst, M.D., PhD co-author of the book Trick or Treatment, The undeniable Facts about Alternative Medicine. [https://a.co/d/5Sv6iO7] He's a long time physician that has decades of experience as a doctor and also as a researcher. He has served as chairman of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at the University of Vienna. He became director of complementary medicine of the Peninsula Medical School (PMS) in 2002. His writing appeared in a regular column in The Guardian, where he reviewed news stories about complementary medicine from an evidence-based medicine perspective. Dr. Ernst discusses his history and his evolution away from alternative medicine after a long period of research and discovery. We talk about what's called Naturopathy and it's fundamental claims and where such practitioners have gone array. We have an exchange about the "Placebo Effect" and Dr. Ernst gives his response to the common retort that the Placebo Effect is "Still an Effect". We talk about some of the commonly utilized modalities in health and fitness including acupuncture and cupping, their foundations and what does the imperical evidence show in regards to them.
