S3 E4 The Allman Brothers Band's "At Fillmore East" x Erykah Badu's "Live" - Live Albums

The prompt for this episode is quite categorical: pick a live album. An album that was recorded live in front of an audience. After a brief generalized discussion on the medium of live albums and what they accomplish - we dive into Danny's pick, one of the most highly praised live albums of all time. Consisting of 7 songs that span across two vinyl discs, Danny's pick, "At Fillmore East," was the Allman Brothers Band's 3rd overall album. It serves as a document of their early 70's live show, which pushed them to levels of popularity that their studio albums couldn't. With a ragtag crew of two masterful drummers, one of the greatest guitarists of all time and the only person who could keep up with and out-compose him, a dynamic bass player, and soulful lead vocalist/organ player - their powers are on full display "At Fillmore East" with no overdubs necessary. A lesser-discussed but equally as powerful and moving live album is Erykah Badu's second overall album, simply called "Live." Julius's pick may have been a performance in-studio for industry professionals, but their enthusiasm and the tightness of all musicians involved allows you to become entranced with the live show Ms. Badu was bringing across the country to promote her debut, "Baduizm." With a bold proclamation regarding this album, Danny is now a proud converted Baduizt that will go on to spread the word of the magic captured on this 1997 release. S3 E3 Side by Side: Outkast x The White Stripes (Playlist Episode)

This one's personal! Welcome to the second installment of our side by side series, where we pick 2 artists to compare and contrast, and create playlists that showcase their best work. The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony featured touching speeches from inductees Outkast and the White Stripes, which got us reflecting on how big of an impact these acts made on our young lives. We start off with the Julius-crafted Outkast playlist, which samples from almost every Outkast album, but also includes a solo Big Boi track that reunites the duo, along with a slick Raekwon verse. We share our album rankings and make the case for Big Boi in the face of people who focus solely on André 3000's undeniable greatness. Then we discuss Danny's White Stripes playlist, including tracks demonstrating why Jack White was a guitar hero for a 10-year-old Danny picking up the electric guitar. But crucially, this playlist also proves why Meg White's sense of timing behind the drum kit was key to the band's success. BONUS: KPop Demon Hunters (2025) with Looking for the Ocean

We're starting a tradition here at the Good Music Show: once a year doing a bonus episode about a new music-related animated movie with our friend and movie expert Danny Vincent. For this installment, we got his co-host Mark Young to join us! If you don't know, now you know: Danny and Mark are hosts of the excellent Pixar podcast "Looking for the Ocean!" On this bonanza of a bonus, we cover the movie itself as well as the music, assisted by Julius's history as a K-Pop fan. With plenty of tangents along the way, including the Oscars, Wish, Zootopia 2, Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse. Check out Looking for the Ocean HERE [https://lookingfortheoceanpixar.podbean.com/] - we highly recommend it! Send us a text message! S3 E2 Geese's "Getting Killed" x Nourished by Time's "The Passionate Ones" 2025 Year in Review - ALBUMS

Wrapping up our 2025 year in review, we begin with some honorable mentions that we did't discuss formally, including Mavis Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, Cleo Reed, and Florry. Then we get into our top albums of the year. First we discuss the highly discussed album "Getting Killed" - the by-the-stats critical consensus album of the year. We talk about the context and cultural impact of the record, as well as highlight the excellent musicianship and production value. Then we dive into a can't-miss 2025 album - "The Passionate Ones" by the Marcus Brown led Nourished by Time. We spend a good chunk analyzing the politics-infused storytelling. It is an album with a wide diversity of sonic influence and messages of hope despite the world's chaos. Tune in!
