Hip replacement, hip replacement recovery, hip surgery, life after hip replacement, hip pain, joint replacement, and active life after hip replacement are all part of this first episode in a special five-part New Steel series. In this episode of The Hip Replacement Podcast, Chris talks about one of the most important themes from his book, New Steel: there is life after hip replacement. When you are living with serious hip pain, osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis, or preparing for hip replacement surgery, your world can start to shrink. You may stop walking, golfing, traveling, exercising, seeing friends, playing with kids or grandkids, or saying yes to things you used to enjoy. But hip replacement surgery does not have to be the end of your active, fulfilling life. It may be the start of rebuilding your confidence, mobility, strength, independence, and hope. Chris shares his own experience with hip pain, two hip replacement surgeries, recovery, and eventually returning to a bigger life. This episode is not about convincing anyone to do an IRONMAN triathlon. It is about reminding hip replacement patients that recovery is real, progress takes time, and your current pain does not have to become your permanent identity. If you are facing hip surgery, early in hip replacement recovery, or wondering what life can look like after hip replacement, this episode offers encouragement, connection, and a reminder that better days can still be ahead. Hip Replacement Recovery Happens One Small Win at a Time ►►Get my book, NEW STEEL here - available in hardcover, paperback, eBook and audio versions [https://amzn.to/4kOnxkF] ►► Download my Top 12 Tips for Hip Replacement Patients here [https://www.chrisbystriansky.com/Hip-Recovery-Masters-12-Tips-For-Hip-Patients] ►For more information, or to send a question or comment, visit The Hip Replacement Podcast website [https://thehipreplacementpodcast.com]   Hip Replacement Recovery: Small Wins Mean Big Success  Hip replacement recovery is built one small win, one careful step, and one brick of confidence at a time. In this episode of The Hip Replacement Podcast, Chris continues the five-part NEW STEEL series with one of the most important lessons for anyone recovering from hip replacement surgery: recovery is built one small win at a time. After hip replacement surgery, many patients wait for the big moment — walking without pain, returning to golf, yoga, travel, work, exercise, or finally feeling “normal” again. But hip replacement recovery usually begins much smaller. Standing for the first time. Taking a few careful steps with a walker. Getting to the restroom. Sleeping a little better. Doing physical therapy exercises. Walking with better posture. Asking for help. Resting instead of overdoing it. Chris shares why small wins matter so much after hip replacement, how comparison can damage confidence, and why every recovery timeline is different. Hip surgery recovery is not linear, and patients may have good days, frustrating days, soreness, fatigue, setbacks, and slow progress — all while still healing. This episode is encouragement for hip replacement patients who feel behind, frustrated, impatient, or unsure if they are making progress. Recovery takes time, consistency, patience, medical guidance, and trust. One small win at a time, confidence returns, strength builds, independence grows, and life starts expanding again. New hips. New you. Let’s go. In Episode 52 of The Hip Replacement Podcast, Chris continues the 5-part NEW STEEL series with Theme 2: fear of hip replacement surgery. If you are preparing for a total hip replacement, worried about hip replacement recovery, or wondering what life after hip replacement will look like, this episode is for you. Chris talks honestly about the fear before surgery — fear of the procedure, fear of recovery, fear of complications, and the deeper fear many hip replacement patients feel: “What if I’m never the same again?” He shares what it felt like before his first hip replacement, why fear is completely normal, and how a bigger reason — family, independence, mobility, work, travel, or simply wanting your life back — can help you move forward. This episode is not about pretending hip replacement surgery is easy. It's about getting informed, asking better questions, preparing for recovery, trusting your medical team, doing the work after surgery, and remembering that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is moving forward because something else matters more. Whether you are facing hip replacement surgery, recovering from a total hip replacement, or supporting someone through the process, this episode offers encouragement, perspective, and a reminder that you are not alone. New hips. New you. Let’s go. Can You Ride Water Slides After Hip Replacement Surgery? Can hip replacement patients still enjoy waterparks, resorts, cruise ship water slides, pools, lazy rivers, and active summer vacations? In this episode of The Hip Replacement Podcast, Chris talks about one of the more fun — and surprisingly practical — questions many active hip replacement patients may wonder about: Are water slides safe after hip replacement surgery? Summer, warm weather, family vacations, waterparks, resorts, and cruise ships can bring great opportunities to move, play, cool off, make memories, and enjoy life after hip replacement. But water slides also bring real things to consider, including twisting, bending, awkward body positions, slippery surfaces, stairs, shallow splashdowns, fatigue, strength, balance, and how long it has been since surgery. Chris shares his own love of water slides, why he believes fun still matters after hip replacement, and the one time a water slide created an unexpected wardrobe emergency. More importantly, he walks through 10 things hip replacement patients should consider before going on water slides, including getting cleared by your surgeon, knowing your stage of recovery, avoiding risky positions, paying attention to the landing area, starting with easier slides, checking ride rules, watching out for wet stairs and slippery walkways, and having an exit plan at the bottom. This episode is not about scaring people away from waterparks. It is about helping hip replacement patients think clearly, make better decisions, and stay active in a way that fits their current recovery, strength, mobility, and confidence. Whether you are recovering from hip replacement surgery, years removed from total hip replacement, planning a summer vacation after hip surgery, wondering about water activities after hip replacement, or trying to return to a more active lifestyle with a new hip, this episode offers practical tips, encouragement, and a bigger reminder: life after hip replacement can still include adventure, movement, laughter, family memories, and yes, maybe even water slides. After a hip replacement, the question is not just whether you can go on water slides. The better question is whether that specific slide, on that specific day, with your current strength and recovery, feels like the right choice for you.   New hips. New you. Let’s go.
