The Manifestation Method Podcast by Ayelet Polonsky
Over a decade ago I picked up a book, read three words, closed it, and sat there while something inside me rearranged. Those words were: listening is God. In this deeply intimate episode of The Manifestation Method, I'm unpacking why those three words might be the missing piece you didn't know you were looking for and how they connect ancient Jewish wisdom, Krishnamurti's philosophy, and the somatic practice of the felt sense into one of the most transformative practices a human being can embody. I'm opening with the philosopher Krishnamurti, not interested in giving you five steps or a new belief system, but obsessed with truth as something directly perceived, felt in the bones, not borrowed from any authority. He said something counterintuitive: the very attempt to fix, transcend, or escape an experience might be the thing that keeps us divided from God. Instead of asking how do I get rid of my fear, he asked: can you observe fear completely without escaping it, suppressing it, or analyzing it? Can you just be with it? What remains when the self becomes quiet enough to listen that is the sacred. Drawing on the Shema Judaism's most central declaration, said upon waking, before sleeping, and before taking our last breath, I'm revealing why the very first word of our core prayer is not believe, trust, or surrender. It's Shema. Listen. In Hebrew the root doesn't just mean to hear with your ears, it means to understand, to internalize, to let something land so deeply it changes how you move in the world. God isn't something you argue your way into. God is something you listen your way into. I'm breaking down the story of Elijah the prophet hiding in a cave on Mount Chorev, utterly depleted, convinced he's the last one standing for God. First comes a wind so powerful it shatters rocks, God is not in the wind. Then an earthquake, God is not in the earthquake. Then fire, God is not in the fire. And then, after all the spectacle and noise, there's the kol demama daka: the still small voice, the sound of delicate silence. That's where God was. Not in the dramatic breakthrough, not in the thunderbolt moment, in the quiet we keep running from because it almost feels like nothing is happening there. This episode includes why most of us aren't actually listening to others, not to ourselves. In conversation we're already halfway into our response before the other person finishes their sentence. We listen through our memories, wounds, opinions, desire to agree or disagree, impulse to fix. We meet our reaction to what's being said, not what's being said. But when the psychological self goes quiet, what's left is pure attention. And that is where the divine moves through the space between two people. Slice that energy with a knife, it's so potent with presence. You'll learn the somatic practice of the felt sense from psychologist Eugene Gendlin's book Focusing, that fuzzy, preverbal bodily awareness of a whole situation before you've put language to it. That something in your chest or gut when you're about to make a decision, before your mind has named it. The complete step-by-step process: clear a space and ask "what's between me and feeling completely fine right now?", pick one thing with charge and find where you feel it in your body, sit with the bodily sensation without labeling it, gently ask "what does this need me to know?", then wait, listen, receive whatever comes (an image, a word, a shift) with warmth and no urgency. Then simply say: thank you. I hear you. That is the Shema in practice. Whether you've been avoiding the inner work out of fear of what's under there, or wondering why nothing quite shifts no matter how many tools you try, this episode offers the truth that changes everything: your shadow doesn't disappear because you're not looking at it. What lives unexamined becomes the background music of your whole life, running the show behind the scenes, driving the mindless scrolling, the unnecessary purchases, the numbing, the shallow connections, the projections onto others. The unexamined shadow is always at the root. Press play and discover: listening is not passive. It is the most active, courageous, sacred thing you can do. Once a day, even ninety seconds, pause, ask your body what it's carrying, and listen without fixing, labeling, or rushing. That sacred pause is the Shema, the kol demama daka, the felt sense, all at once. The divine was never far away. We were just too loud to notice it.
